How can a sub 2900 FPS .375 be king over a 3050 FPS .375???? It just can't be there Clark. The 375 Remington ULTRA Magnum is the king of the 375's. He's much more popular than the LAZ or the Weathery and the town folk can afford to feed him. None the less, the 375 Ruger seems like a good new cartridge. I look forward to seeing stats on Nosler AccuBonds with you best load Gatehouse.

How can it be King over the RUM? Easy. There are many reasons it's a better cartridge, even with less velocity. I could list them all but then we woudl have to get into a debate about it and blah blah blah...

The most important reason it is The New King?

Because Internet legend "Gatehouse" owns one.

:slap:

I've read quite a bit about the .375 Ruger in the last week. It remains to be seen how well it will do commercially, no matter what the ballistics might be. I'm a born skeptic...

So having said that, what is happening with sales of the .375 Ruger on a worldwide basis? Does anyone know?

Also Gatehouse are you keeping the factory Hogue stock?

Luv2safari, have you chronoed any of the factory ammo, in your rifle?

Only my first box, and it was the 270gr loads. I got an average around 2780 FPS with moderate variation. I can't find my data sheet; this is from memory. I believe the ambient temperature was around 90 F. I have yet to put the clock on the 300s. I need to add a Limbsaver slip-on pad first, mostly to add length.;) :D

I am beginning to wonder about my chrno...I knocked it over recently and it's been giving some weird (like super fast or super slow) readings. One 375 Ruger load chronoed at 1120...Now, I know it's not a 375 RUM, but....:D

Demonical, I was ready to not like the Hogue stock, but I am really warming up to it!

It's not pretty, but neither am I.:)

A short range report:

Took the 375 Alaskan down to the range (previously I was shooting at my house which doesn't have a very steady bench yet)

I took 3 shots at 100 using the open iron sights. They are at the bottom of the target.

Then I attached the 1.5-5 Vari X III scope, and, after a few sighting and zeroing shots, shot a group. It looked about an inch, pretty good for windage, so I just clicked up a bit more for a 2" high at 100 zero. And shot 3 more rounds.

Then I set up a target at 50 yards, filled the magazine and chamber with 4 rounds, and shot offhand, rapid fire.

The first gorup on the top looked decent for rapid fire, and hell, it was fun, so I did it again, although not as good a group this time.

The Ruger worked pretty fast but compared to my custom 300WSM, the action is as rough as sandpaper! :D Maybe a few more action cycles are in order to smooth this out abit!!

I somewhat wonder if this is just the finish, and it needs to wear down a bit for smooth operation.

Overall, I am pleased. the rifle certianly shows good accuracy potential, and it will run fast if you want it to, as well.

Velocities varied form a high of 2560fps to a low of 2370...Oddly, my 300WSM that usually runs about 2900-2950fps with a 180gr bullet was also slow today, coming in at 2640-2860. Hmmm...

I think it's time for a new chrono. After all, I shot this one but only winged it- didn't kill it. And its taken a few beatings. May be time for anew one..

So, everyone else that has an Alaskan is getting 2700+ fps from the 270gr Hornady factory loads, and everyone wiht an African is getting baout 2800+ fps..

TIme to order a new chrono. Poor thing took a grazinb 45 ACP bullet on the top of the screens, which left a chuk/dent in it but it still functioned...Obvioulsy not very well, though!:D

Clark it is good to see you have joined the elite club of the "hell, I've shot my chronograph too club"

Both Rugers I had were very rough and felt gritty when feeding. Does it carve up your brass too?

Nope, no carviung of brass, it's fine. The grittiness is going away wiht working the nbolt, too...:)

That is what they said about the 300WSM, too.

Hmm......How is the whizzum selling compated to the 300H&H, 300WM, 300Weatherby etc?:rockOn::rockOn:
Forget about the H&H,WM WBY. They aren't the most popular 30cal, the 30/06 is!

........ and if you think WSM is gonna overtake the 30/06, well I think you've been listening to you imaginary friend again. :onCrack:

:canadaFlag:

That isn't a very good comparison. The 300WSM was never intended to compete with the 30-06, of course!:slap:

New King of the 300Magnums? 300WSM
New King of the 375's? 375 Ruger
