.375 Ruger....

Had 5 new shooters up to the range today. They tried out a bunch of different guns. I take the 375 Ruger up there for these things because there sometimes is a guy that wants to try it out. they all took one shot, including the lone female that came. All had giant grins on their faces after the shot. They filmed each other, I wish I had taken some video to post here, but I have to run these

Anyway, they had a blast shooting the NEW KING! :)

Did you bring an h&h to try or did you only give them one option?..... a new shooter would think a 223 is awesome..... Just sayin'

They shot
22 lr rifles
223 AR15
223 LVSF 700
7.62x39 SKS
12 guage
9mm
45ACP

In addition to the NEW KING.

So they had lots of options.

I no longer own a H&H.

Have a Sako Hunter in 375 H&H and a Savage 116 Alaskan Brush Hunter in 375 Ruger.
Have taken big game with both and love em both.
As the saying goes, "6 of one, half dozen of the other".
No difference worth mentioning.

I think the 9.3x64 is a better cartridge that the 375 ruger, it almost seems like Ruger and Hornady copied a design that came out in the 1920's and just put a 375 dia bullet instead of the .366 bullet- just letting you know in case you didn't. The 375 ruger is not the true king but maybe it is the king out of your rifles.

This topic was discussed at length a few years ago here on CGN. :)

the case design is obsolete. Nobody has designed a case like that in a very long time.
Obsolete ?.
Am wondering if that so called 'obsolete' tapered case design has anything at all to do with the fact that my BRNO 602 H&H is by far the slickest, most reliable feeding staggered box mag bolt gun that I've ever been blessed to shoot the liv'n daylights out of.
She will cycle a mag full of empty cases, fer cry'n out loud.

Not owning an imposter myself ... (to what avail?) ... to compare to, these impressions admittedly remain subjective, not empirical.
No diss'n on the Ruger here, am sure it's a very competent package ... but nothing could feed/cycle/extract/eject better than me H&H does.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention ... 5 down and bolt throws are still low effort and greasy slick.
270's clock in at just under 2800fps, 300's go 2625. .. mostly MOA, or thereabout's.

If me was a rich guy, I'd dabble with the .375 Ruger for chits 'n giggles.
I'm not rich.

I will NEVER give up this .375 H&H 'o mine.

Although, the 9.3x62 Wagner Husqvarna sure has caught me interest of late. ....

Obsolete ??? Now that's an asinine thing to say about one of the finest cartridges ever designed.
Vviking, like your 602 mine feeds like a dream and is certainly a keeper, never to be given up.
In fact I'd part with my 9.3 first....

Just LOVE mine. I find it funny that so many hate those Hogue stocks. I guess when you are short, and stocky like me (5'10", 235lbs) then the Alaskan stock is the cats meow! Mine purrrrrrrrrs

The .375 Ruger is simply the most affordable , African sized cartridge to come along in a great while. It comes , out of the gate, in an affordable platform (Ruger,Savage,Howa), that is housed in a .30-06 spfd sized action, using shorter barrels, and is really forgiving in the reloading department. (unlike the reason I , and all my friends, never owned a .375 H & H, the rifles are just not affordable for the average hunter, and have a long action/long barrel combination that is just not "handy" or particularly light) . Plus, no one I know has one, so that alone is reason enough to buy one, just to be unique.

That Hogue stock is one of my main dislikes - too chunky in the wrong places and the recoil pad is...very cheapish.

Too each his own I guess, my moose-knuckle hands and shorter height/long arm configuration make it work well for me. My shape is ..................how do I put it...............Atypical.

Its interesting that you mention the stock because that's the one feature that I really liked about my Ruger Alaskan.
I'm shorter than you ( 5' 7.5", 200 lb. ) and it was a perfect fit for me.
If only the rifle had functioned better I would still have it...

Obviously, the H& H will still work and put meat on the table, but the case design is obsolete. Nobody has designed a case like that in a very long time.

The old British firm of Holland & Holland designed the 375 H&H and the 300 H&H which are two of the most powder efficient and reliable (won't jam or stick in chamber) cartridges in history.
They realized from the input of the dozens of African professional hunters that bought their guns over the span of 200 years that when a cartridge sticks in the chamber when an elephant, lion, rhino, hippo is charging they'll be scraping the hunter up in gooey, blood dripping pieces.
But what would Holland & Holland know considering the junk guns that they make and the short while they have been in the business?
Rank amateurs.
