.375 Ruger....

He wants to be part of the club, but is too stubborn to admit it. Heck, he's already a member of Team New King now that he owns a 375 Ruger.....;)

I've never been much of a "joiner", I kinda prefer to live my life "to the beat of a different drummer". I am however at least open minded enough to give all new things, that interest me, a try before deciding "Ya or Nay"

My only issue with the 375 Ruger is some gentleman who keeps proclaiming that it is "The New King" of the medium bores, ad infinitum, which is annoying and really putting a bad shadow over what may be a really good cartridge.
I do believe he is doing more damage than good to this cartridge, with his endless rhetoric.

Bingo!! You've hit the nail right on the head.

There you have it. And well said.

(tho the .277 stuff rings a wee bit hollow. If there was still to this day an unfilled cal. niche between .264 and .284 ... WHO, would be in there like a dirty shirt. :p)

Never thought of it that way vviking............but na I don't think so..........well maybe, but I would have made it 274 or 275, much superior ballistically :p and I never would have standardized 130 gns for bullet weight, anyone who understands BCs and SDs would have made it 145-155 gns. :p:p Keeping it properly between the 6.5 optimum bullet weights and the 7mm optimum bullet weights. Any slightly astute ballistic moron would see that.........sure 110-130 for varmints and 160-170 for the over weight boys but standard hunting in that 145+ a bit, range.

Posts #600 & 601 make the most sense in this thread..... well said !
I seriously feel that I gave the 375 Ruger a fair trial and had the brass I used been better and the rifles I bought I'm sure I would have felt better about the cartridge, but thanks to my experience I have a much higher respect for the 375 Belted Holland & Holland....

Whatever you say, Teammate! Welcome to our club, anyway. Team New King is open for all to join, and admission price is the purchase of a 375 Ruger chambered rifle. It's a win/win for everyone! ;)

My prediction that the 375 Ruger is doomed is due to facts I don't control but am astute enough to recognize.....Lack of good brass from any of the major ammo makers is a death knell whether GH is willing to admit it or not. Those of us who have been in this game as long as I have, know this is a bad sign, even the WSMs have several makers making ammo and brass for them and their future isn't exactly stellar. The new 26 Nosler may well meet the same fate if a major player doesn't pick up the ball and start making affordable brass and ammo for it.

Hornady isn't a major player in the ammunition business? This is news to me. Hornady has been around since the end of WWII and shows no sign of halting production of NEW KING brass and ammunition. And with the intraweb, tracking down components has never been easier.

So let me say this ONE MORE TIME, I do NOT hate the 375 Ruger, and as far as Gatehouse's and my banter, well I hope it's all in good fun, because it is on this end. I do believe he is doing more damage than good to this cartridge, with his endless rhetoric
.

It is indeed all in fun, but the people that get turned off a cartridge because I like to have some fun on the internet, are feeble minded sheeple and I feel sorry for the toadies that come on this thread just to "agree" every time someone says something negative to me. I've said it before and I'll say it again- If someone you have never met and never will meet has so much power over your cartridge selection, you are feeble minded.

As for doing more harm than good? Most of these feeble minded people weren't going to actually buy a NEW KING anyway. CGN is only a very small part of the firearms world and every other website that NEW KING gets mentioned on, there is not such an aggressive response, it's all good fun.

I have done more good for the cartridge in the past year than his endless yapping ever will, by developing a new way to get good and reliable, inexpensive brass for it.

Actually, someone else did it over a year before you did, and posted the results in the handloading section of CGN. I realize this is a long thread (#7 all time longest threads in this forum- #1 is also on the same topic) but the links are in this thread somewhere.

Well Sgt R it stands for Charlie-Foxtrot-Bravo-Mike-India which was the registration of my Cessna T337B before I rolled it into a ball on a little bush strip in the Yukon. I'll ponder the request for brass, but I did this primarily to assist my son with a bunch of problems with his 375 Ruger African, so he kinda gets first dibbs on it.

Hopefully nobody was badly injured or worse. Im guessing that since you are still here it worked out....I'm sure many of us would like to hear the story and pics of course. Crash stories are usually interesting.

'Pottsy' has given me a few stories, some relating to your aircraft experiences. One I recall had to go with prop 'alterations' so you could get airborne again. I think both you and H4831 could give numerous air related tales.

I've always wanted to take a 337 for a spin. I'm currently driving a PA-31-350. Good machine.

I have since purchased a PA-32-300 Cherokee Six as it is known, great performing machine, superior to the 206 I owned briefly.........hated that plane!! New girl is named "Dixie", registration is CG-DXI.......

The 337 was fast, 185 Kts at 12,500, but heavy and a real "groundhog" with the small retract gear............fun to fly as it performed like a high HP single engine, the only plane I have ever flown that would do a 90 deg bank turn for 180 deg without dropping the nose. Very responsive and far more nimble than any other twin I've flown. Single engine performance was as good as a 185, she'd hold 20,000 ft on either engine according to the manual, never tried it, but did make a few single engine landings for various reasons, all without incident. Very stable platform and huge wing and flaps, just not the best bush plane in the Yukon. I'd highly recommend it for down south though where you don't have to try to get her in and out of 1000 ft.

Downside..........25 GPH = 100 LPH @ $2.10/Ltr = $210/Hr in cruise for fuel only, plus maintenance on 2 engines, plus maintenance on retract gear........very expensive aircraft to own.

Not much to tell really, caught a wind shear on landing and dropped about 80 ft to the strip. Main gear held but the nose wheel didn't fare so well, skidded the nose down the runway for a bit then she flopped over on her back just to make sure no one would attempt to fix her. Gathered our tools off the headliner of the plane and proceeded to do the job we were there to do. No injuries what-so-ever.

If I lived long enough to have even 1/4 of your experiences and amazing stories , I'll be a happy man. Thanks for all the info. Please keep me in mind. I do doubt your son will not want them though. Cheers, and please, for the love of Jesus, fly safe.

Yep Johnn, Potsy worked for me through most of my "devil may care" flying days. He was working for me when I planted my 205 in the bush out of Dawson City, no serious injuries but a bad crash........changed my attitude towards flying after that one. Realized I wasn't invincible..........Flying in a full blown spring blizzard, in reported icing conditions was probably one of the stupidest decisions I ever made. Cost me a beautiful plane........love affairs like I had with my 205 only come along once in a lifetime, if you're lucky. She got me out of many bad flying decisions and took good care of me right up to the end.......not her fault in any way, she just couldn't cope with the amount of ice we accumulated so fast.
