I applied for an antique letter from the CFC for a Merwin Hulbert Pocket model in 38 MH caliber and was told no.

I spoke with the lady and was told that the 38MH cartridge falls under the 38SW cartidge as an "also known as" so its no longer classed as an antique.

Further to that I asked about the 44MH and the 32MH calibers and was told that the 44MH still stands alone as an antique caliber and the 32MH fall under the 32H&R as an "also known as" BUT...because the 32H&R isnt on the NO LIST its still classed as an antique.

They were talking about this a few months ago. BUT im surprised how they could just do this after Deregistering lots of 38 M&H caliber guns.
I know for certin of one 38 M&H that a guy got Deregistered.

So what happens to the guys stuck with 38 M&H that have Deregistration letters. LOL
I know the 38 M&H is very simalar to the 38 S&W BUT it is a Diffrent Round.
I have a old CFC letter stateing a 38 M&H is a perscribed antique.

Why would the RCMP even Waste time on this at all :confused:Talk about Stupid!
Gangs running about our citys shooting people but not to Worry the RCMP are working hard keeping us safe from them Dreaded 38 M&H there packing in the streets.

Good to know the 44 M&H and 32 H&R are still Perscribed Antiques for now!
But if they got so much spare time on there hands to waste on doing USELESS stuff like this the Gangs and Criminals have no worrys.

If someone had one of these with an under 105mm barrel, it would automatically become a prohib, and could not be registered. I wonder if the "powers that be" thought of that.

Thin edge of the wedge boys this is just to see if they can get away with it.
I had a disturbing conversation awhile ago with someone who felt 'colt' appearing in a .450-.454 bore cartridge designation fell under the "colts" part of the SOR.

I for one will reline and rechamber every antique I own to my own special brand of non list "11.25RCFDD" and I'll keep relining and chambering until thier list is 9 pages long!

Sure they've thought of that. They'll create a new category 12(9) for non-grandfathered/new-grandfathered/antique/new non-antique/semi-prohibs.:p 12(7) is already taken, 12(8) is held in reserve for the next foul-up, likely when Ontario bans all handguns. Everyone in the province will be grandfathered 12(8) until their guns are turned in for destruction. Grace period 4 hours, new licenses issued for 12(8) to protect owners in the interim.

I can see a day when they move to make all handguns (whether it be antique or not) illegal…. Lately, I’ve noticed the old antics of "we all suffer because someone f__ked it up for all of us". Seems to be what is happening allot. I fully believe that's what has happened.

It's only been 4-6 months since there was a shooting with a "Antique" Webley. It was re chambered in 45acp. So you can understand why Miller gets on his high horse and find another lump of coal for his fire.

Antique Webleys Are not Rechambered to 45 ACP there cylinders are shaved to make room for the moon clips.
I think the correct term would be Altered to shoot 45 ACP.

I never heard of a ANTIQUE Webley used to shoot anyone.
Where you getting your story or facts from?

Dingus, DD - I am sure that if an antique Webley or any other antique for that matter was used in a crime, you could obtain information about that under the FOI act. Why relying on someone's hearsay when you can know for sure?

However, considering that RCMP is having a hardest time finding even more basic information about crimes in Canada, I do not believe for a second they would be able to find out for sure and too would be very interested in hearing of Pblatzz's source.

The shooting happened in Toronto. The police were doing the "Look what we recovered", showing the Webley on TV (Don't go by the media, they still call a revolver a sawed off shotgun). Firearms recovered are often turned in to the CFS for examination. I have a friend who retired from there, It was part of a conversation we had about what was turning up and how there were some real beauties being destroyed.

I guess this is their way of getting more antiques registered without actually changing the regs and adding calibers. They're just lumping similar cartidges in with others that are on the no list so that collectors like us get the shaft.

I was working on a deal for a very nice revolver, sure that the caliber was antique. The guy that i was dealing with made another deal based on the cash he was getting from me...needless to say, i didnt make a friend here.

Hopefully I can still work something out with him in the future...for a 32 maybe.

So Hear say then?
Im not saying it never happened BUT they never made a point of showing the gun saying this is a Perscribed antique and was used in a crime.

Theres alot more NON Antique Webleys converted to 45 ACP than Antique ones.
Most people could not tell a Antique Webley from a Modern one.

Lots of MKVIs were converted to 45 ACP there all modern.

Ok, I give up...What's your point?

I think the point is that the Antique status of the revolver is in question.

We should probabley just be happy that we all did not hear about this or there would be trouble in the hen house! Imagine the headlines and the out rage that honest tax payers are allowed to collect 200 year old guns with no little or no over oversight.

So was this an assault shooting or a suicide? Stats would show that suicide is 10 x more likely.

When the RCMP took control this is what we can expect. They are the reason we don't have an antique class like they have in the states . originally 45long colt would have been allowed but the RCMP put a stop to it and the rest 44-40 ETC. PS thank the conservatives for putting the RCMP in control of the registry.

My point is your Posts are like a hooker waveing at a troop train pete :D :p!
All over the place!

They started as a *SHOOTING with a ANTIQUE WEBLEY*

Then to it was on TV on a table from some RCMP haul Maby coulda been.
But some old guy from CFS seen one that was handed in once.

Most cops wouldnt know a Antique Webley MKII from a Webley MKV

DEZ, thank you! Please remind the 99 percent of other shooting and voting members of this when you get a chance. I know we don't have much in the way of alternatives but voting for the Conservatives cause you think they'll be kind to gun owners is like looking for love from Dingus's troop train whore!

Hey, thanks dingus,

BTW the CFS is the Center for Forensic Science, it has nothing to do with the RCMP. It's a lab......

Pete:rockOn:

All i was trying to say Pete is if your gona say there was a *SHOOTING* with a Antique Webley be prepard to back it up with some facts! ;)

Go make a statement like that in Articals if ya think i was being a ####, them guys will chew ya up and spit you out :D

Also back on track here!!
The tecs at CFC have to Review the 38 M&H CFC letters sent out because of some info they came accross that states that sure the company made there own ammo 38 M&H but knew 38 S&W ammo would chamber and shoot in there Firearms they were selling accross the US at the time of manufacture.
So they really are NO longer Antiques! No more Letters on the 38 M&H
So its not that they just dont like Sportee LOL

Also they are NOT looking at any other Calibers.
But that they could Review any or all Antique Status letters at any time.
Thats what i was told today!

I brought this subject up a couple months ago but most said it couldnt happen.
