.38 Special Revolver, is there still love?

Despite not having a dedicated .38 revolver (used to have some but I'm a large N frame addict), I love shooting 148gr HBWC's through my beloved M627-0 ".357 Magnum Model of 1989". Wadcutters make it feel like shooting a .22LR model 17. This one's always "ready for action" when loaded with six 158gr SWHP+P...

S&W 38 special Model 10 with a 5 inch "pencil" barrel anytime over my HK's, Sigs, Berettas and Glocks. Glad that I had the opportunity to carry the ol' wheel gun before we went semi auto. I still take the "38" out and match them up with semis on today's courses of fire, just out of sheer curiosity.

My favorite moment during an IPSC match was about 25-26 years ago. My shooting buddy and I went to an IPSC "jungle lane" match in Chilliwack, I was using my 4" S&W M66 and my buddy was using his 9mm Beretta M92S. Now this was before the days of blocked magazines.

As my shooting buddy were always betting each other for who would buy the first round of beer after the match, I figuered (sp)I was hooped! When the smoke and dust were cleared, for 6 stages I beat my buddy by 26 seconds, and I had to do 13 more reloads than he did!!

It's not the gun you have, it is HOW you use the gun you have.

x100.
I've been fortunate enough to try multiple platforms (Prod, Stan, Classic, Revolver, Open)

For me, there is nothing like running a wheel gun fast and accurately.

It's incredibly satisfying, totally complicated, utterly difficult, and only a select few are willing to put the time & effort in required to master.
It's a different world.

Probably why I'm drawn to it.

The cherry on the cake is when a younger shooters interest is peaked. Not many young guys have seen a revolver run in competition, let alone properly.
If I can peak one persons interest at every match, hopefully competition Revolver will continue.

Alas, I only have one - so far - a Model 14-3 :)

I nearly got another one; Frontier Firearms recently had a Model 10 with a 6" barrel for $269.00 (!) It wasn't in 100% condition but looked OK and I figured that for that price it might even be worth getting a gunsmith to shorten the barrel to just over the "you will become a serial murderer" 105 mm length. Unfortunately while I was making up my mind some swine bought the *$%& thing.

:)

Does my Swiss Army revolver count? It throws .308 to .314 lead down range with amazing accuracy.. more so than any semi I've fired...

Well, it's Swiss. There is a story that in the early 1900s Kaiser Wilhelm was observing the marksmanship skills of the Swiss forces, who numbered about 500,000. He acknowledged that they shot well but asked, "What would you do if I invaded with 1,000,000 troops?" Answer: "We would shoot twice and go home."
