390 yard moose kill

I've found this video and looks like the guy shot a moose from 390 yards so I'm curious how far one can actually shoot with a ML? I'm not confident over 250 yards with both: ML or bolt action.

I find it hard to believe that there was a hole through all of that brush to allow a prone shot at the moose. I think it would take very little to deflect a bullet striking one or more twigs along the way

Ball or REAL? Or a sabot something or other? What mv?

Here is one version drop chart of a 178gr ball with an mv of 1800fps shot at an altitude of 2000ft AMSL - from

Did the second shot make the moose react like it had been hit? Or is it more likely that someone shot it with another rifle and they deleted the sound?
Were they claiming that the first shot actually hit the moose? "he moves in for a follow-up shot"

And probably while he was shooting, in his mind he was singing the Tanya Tucker song "step back down believers, or the rain will never come. And if you still think I'm lying to ya look a yonder here comes the rain".

The farthest I have taken an animal with my muzzle loader was a whitetail buck at 175 yards and the 250grain sabot was falling like a rock at that range. I just caught the bottom of his chest and a couple more inches of drop and it would of missed him cleanly.

That show on Wild TV, long range pursuit, makes a long range muzzleloader. Using the balistic rangefinders and all the expensive toys and optics they use on the custom CF rifles they build. Pretty sure they shoot over 300.

Most areas with muzzleloader seasons, have exclusive seasons for a week or two before the rifle season. Not sure i would invest the sort of money it would take to get a long range muzzleloader given the limited exclusive season.

he was shooting up hill , that would shorten the distance up a bit in terms of bullet drop .......

but I noticed makes me think it is fake ......

where is the "thud" after the shot , when the bullet strikes the moose ?

I would expect a 50 caliber bullet to make a decent amount of impact noise ...... unless the lower velocity of the muzzle loader takes away from that .

for what it is worth the video really feels similar to any thing reality based from discovery channel ( in other words fake )

imho I'd say 150 yards should be the limit for ML shooting. Most ppl I know don't shoot over 100 yards anyway.
