Hey All,

I heard a rumor at the local gun shop this morning that S&W are going to produce revolvers in 4.25" barrel lengths to compete with the 4.2" Rugers. Can anyone out there confirm this? If so which revolvers and in what calibers are planned.
I'd love to get my hands on a Canadianized version of a Mountain Gun!

Brian

It would be welcome news if it was true.

NAA.

awww maaan!

I'll believe it when I see it. If it occurs, I'll be disappointed at first for having to sell off some things, but then happy after. :)

Model 329PD in 4.25" pleeeeze.

No mention of 'em on Smith's site. There is a 5" M629 and a M327 TRR8. You wouldn't notice the 3/4". N frames are big buggers. Go try one on for size before you buy. They run around $1100.
"...4.25" k frame..." 'N' frames only.

I've already got several N frames, a 5.5" M1917 in .45 ACP, 6" M28-2 in .357, and 6.5" M29-2 in .44 , so I know what they're like, a 4.25" in .45 colt would just add to the family.

Here's hoping,

Brian

I gather that Ruger and some other companies came out with the 4.2 inch barrel option to get around a California change that limited 4 inch barrel guns in some way. It's just a fortunate coincidence that Canada benefits from this US domestic issue.

If this is the case then S&W is looking to follow suit primarily for the California market and again we ride on the coat tails with happy grins on our faces.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you just don't like N frames....or the S&W pricing?

I'd buy a 4.25 inch in the right caliber....but I've already got a 4.2 inch Ruger 44mag....and you can notice the shorter barrel compared to the 5 inch S&W my friend owns.

I personally do not find the N frames huge...but I regularily shoot my 460 with 45 and 454 loads....so I'm biased as far as size goes...my Ruger feels like a small gun somedays. ;)

Already have a collection of 4" revolvers, and it's growing. If this happens, I think it will drive the price of prohibs even lower. I'll soon have one for every day of the week.

I have N frames with bbl lengths of 2.5" to 8.4". I don't find them particularly unwieldy, but I do prefer the shorter barrels and find the 4" magnum contours and 5" tapered contours seem to balance the best for me. The 4.2" bbls will let other folks enjoy the smaller lengths, and that's a good thing, at least until we get these repressive laws reversed. - dan

If no one starts a rumour it can't come true. Keep it up.

Ruger was recently persuaded it will be worth while to make some of their No.1 rifles in .303 British.

ok i wrote S&W and here is the response.

JD,

No, there are no intentions on creating a barrel length specific for sale in Canada.

Subject: revolver inquiry

This is an inquiry to know if Smith & Wesson will be making any 4.2" revolvers for the Canadian market? This would be ideal due to our law that no barrels can be under that length. There is another manufacture that makes revolvers and are extremely popular, but myself and many other have a preference for S&W revolvers.

Thank you

You made the mistake of mentioning "for the Canadian market". Ruger only made the 4.2's to get around the new California laws. And if S&W follows in their footsteps then it would be for the same reason. Canada just gets to ride the coat tails of the new barrel length solution.

oops forgive me didn't realize that angle had to ask something as the speculation was driving me nuts.
