4.25 vs 5 m&p

I have been shooting 4" for about 4 years, both IDPA and IPSC (Glock).

I recently switched to a 5" pistol, and have been shooting exclusively that for a 5 months.
If you shoot a short pistol well, you will shoot a longer one better. the extra length helps your accuracy for many reasons, better sight picture, better front sight control, more muzzle speed, anyway.

Regardless of what you choose, a good sight system makes a difference....

With that being said, all this things are negligible is your fundamentals are lacking...

If you are out shooting a stock 4" pistol, then an upgrade is always good but dont expect to be Miculek just because of the gun.
Cheers

If you get the pro (5") ladies will line up to have ### with you.

Well the line was already pretty long but I haven't noticed it get longer...
Just picked up the 5" Pro. What a gritty and spongy trigger. Just in conversation with APEX; the whole duty carry kit didn't work well. I have the USB, RAM and sear plunger spring but the hard sear made the whole set up worse. APEX suggests putting the hard sear back in and adjusting the trigger bar loop by a few thousandths. May as well...the duty kit works awesome in my 4.25. All in all, it is a pistol that I have wanted for some time-longer line or not!

If using an optic, sight radius is a non-issue. The balance is a bit different, long vs short.
This past weekend, I was shooting a friend's 4.25 CORE with a RMR w/delta reticle. Custom shop special order with ported barrel and slide. Really fine pistol! Barks, though, with the ports. Noticeably different feel, compared with my 5" CORE w/Deltapoint.

I have the m&P40 4.25", also with 9mm barrel and apex flat faced trigger. To me, it's just as accurate as my other more expensive guns, like cz, sig, hk, ppq & 1911. This weekend I am going to try 25 meters with it for the first time and will report back.

Hi,

I'm trying to compare the m&p 9mm range/carry and pro and going between the 4.25 and the 5 inch barrel. The 5 gives that little bit longer sight radius, but is it really that noticeable? I am looking at the range/carry with the addition of the apex trigger, and comparing against the pro 5inch. The pro has the longer barrel, better sights and better stock trigger. But the 4.25 range/carry kit comes with all the extras and with the addition of the apex trigger is similar in price to the stock pro with no extras.
Any thoughts on if the 5 inch pro will really be cost effective as compared to the range/carry with the addition of an apex trigger?
The range/carry is easy to find, the pro has to be special ordered in and 1 of the 3 distributors in Ontario is already out of stock.
Thanks

OK. Just got back from range. Didn't get my best, or the gun's best, but still decent. I think it's mostly my load is too light for this gun, more than 10 FTE from 150 rounds(you can see the load data on target). NRA 25-yard B-8 target shot @ 25 meters(27.x yards). 90 2X.
@20 yards, the groups were better(mostly because of me and my light load ammo). So, given I am still pretty green, I would say, in capable hands, 4.25" is plenty good.
