3" #4 copperplated buckshot is my perfered load for coyotes. I have killed them with 3" #6 turkey magnum loads from close range. I aim for the head/neck area.

A coyote cut in half with bird shot at 7 yards is a tall tale, when I see the pictures I will apologize.
Just for fun, someone go out and blast something from 20 feet with a load of birdshot, cmon , please! Tell us about the effects you would expect on anything organic ( no zombies ) up to 100 pounds.
I have hit raccoons at across the barn distances with a full load of 4's quite a few times, no bisection ever occured.
A coyote is 5 or more time bigger than a bull raccoon.
Coyotes taken with small shot are targets of oppurtunity, purposely chasing coyotes with small shot is foolish and un-ethical.
Alot of people have no respect for coyotes but nothing deserves to run off and die, chances are wounded coyotes won't be able to catch natural prey so cats, dogs and chickens will be on the menu.
