.41 Mag, extinct?

I recently picked up a nice single-shot pistol I didn't know I wanted :p

It's a Merrill and it runs two calibres thru two barrels. One is .30 Merrill and the other is .41 Mag. I knew that Elmer Keith had developed this cartridge back in the heyday, and knew about the calibre since forever. I was therefore shocked to find that factory-rolled ammo was as rare as the pope's poo.

Anyone know where I can find this stuff, factory-rolled? I run a 650 but have less than no intention of buying dies for something I'll mebbe run 50 rounds thru.

Bought a BlackHawk in 41 for a merry christmas fo me.... then found out what you just did. Everybody says "in the spring". thou a board sponser had a box plus a 1/3 that i thought was a little stiff. But its supply and demand and he's got to make a living too. I bought a used set of dies here and got lucky at the local WSS for the bullets. Had some new brass from an auction bulk buy spring last spring. Now there's 100 rds ready for the wknd.

if I were you I'd just keep my eyes open for a used set of dies at a gunshow and I have seen 41 mag brass at quite a few shows . and as for useing you Dillion I;ll bet you have your old single stage press sitting in the back corner.

or use a buddys press . it;s a nice caliber .
 
.41 Mag ammo is out there, but there's not a big demand for it.
Cheap it ain't though. Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, Ontario, wants $68.95 per box(50 I think) for Remington ammo. Their site says they keep it in stock.
Epp's is another source.
Your local gun shop can order it for you. Be prepared to pay up front and order more than 1 box.
The .30 Merrill will be strictly a reloading thing, including making the brass. And find load data. A net search turns up next to nothing about the cartridge. You'll have to find some .225 Winchester brass and buy a case forming die. RCBS make$ that. Runs $92.99US at Midway. Stateside and they don't ship here.

I never reloaded before buying my 650 a coupla years ago. And to be honest, I'd prolly fall asleep at the wheel if I had to use a single-stage press.

The fine gentleman who sold me the handgun also supplied me with dies for both 41 & 30 Merrill. As well as 80 .225 Win cases, brand new to boot.

Thing is, these dies aren't compatible with progressive reloaders. So I will be keeping my eyes peeled for dies and casings for the 41 if I can't find a coupla boxes of pre-rolled stuff.

The one gun I regret most not buying was a Lew Horton S&W 657 with a 3 inch barrel and round butt grip.

Ya, it's a reload only safe queen, but it was classy.
 
I found a couple cases of PMC factory loads, 2000 component 210 gr. bullets,and an Dillon SDB conversion kit to .41 mag. All of which I promptly snaffled up to feed my 1894 FG. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Get as much as you can when you can find it!Scarce and expensive, should be renamed .41 S and E mag!

But I like it.
 
Just curious as to what type of dies you had that won't work in the progressive? If the dies are oddball you can get a new standard set die $28, or normal single stage press for your dies if theyre normal 7/8"x14 thread for $46 if you're just gonna shoot a few rounds.

I've had an interest in .41 Mag but have yet to pick one up.

Not my experience at all. I finally got a Bisley .41 last year after a long time of looking, and was shocked at how easy it was to find brass, dies and other essentials. Walked into Wholesale Sports back then, RCBS dies and Win. brass on the shelves, cast bullets on the floor. Walked into Wholesale Sports today, Lee dies and Win brass on the shelves. Was at a gun show today, saw at least two dies sets for sale. A friend walked into his local hole0-in-the-wall store and saw 200 rounds of new brass there, so he bought it all and sent it to me. For a caliber that no one shoots, there sure are a lot of components and tools available for it.

I'll post pics and maybe you guys can shed some light on this. I have a 5-position 650- progressive, yet there only two dies in the case. I'm not that experienced in reloading, maybe I'm just not "getting it"?
