.410 out of my marlin 45-70 ???

I'm told that they work in the .444, but have not personally seen it done... you will have no problem in your 1895 though... IME the max range is about 30 feet give or take... the rifling really does a number on the pattern.

Thanks guy. Just about;) 'range day' for the 1895GS. I'll have to give it a try and a pattern test. I'll take the 444S along and try that as well.:) Thanks again.

Fired many boxes from an original 1886 I had as a kid, extraction was 100% with the Win and it digested 3" as well as 2 1/2" patterns really suck though. I used nothing but 7 1/2s to try to get as much shot as possible out there. It would split the odd high brass case but still popped out no sweat. I did manage to shoot a couple gophers with it at about 12 ft and some immature magpies one day but I don't think I ever shot anything edible with it.

Shooting shot from a rifled bore gives you lousy patterns so the only way to compensate a bit is to use lots of shot. #8 or #9 (if you can find it) loaded into 45/70 cases as described above would be the route I would take.

Now to find 2-1/2 inch 410 shells. Where pray tell does one hunt in Western Canada at night legally. I am pretty sure if you got caught driving around at night with a gun that had a light attached guestions would get pretty hot and heavy. Course I only hunted in Alberta for 50 yearsso I could be wrong but the Indians even got in trouble for spot lighting when I lived there.

Every shop I've been in has had 2 1/2" .410 shells on the shelf... I bought four flats of #8's for skeet and then sold both my .410's (duh!)... but I should be good for grouse for awhile. ..

Nothing illegal about attaching a flashlight to a firearm.

When was the last time you came across grouse out at night? The only birds I have ever seen at night was the odd owl. Maybe I don't hunt in the right places.

I guess nobody here has ever dressed a deer at night and wondered about what was watching them from the sidelines?

I have the flashlight mount on my GG for camp use mainly. I have aimed shotguns at bears in my kitchen tent at 3 AM and did not enjoy fumbling with my handheld flashlight at the same time. We have the technology and now all of my work long guns have mounted lights or the ability to attach mounted lights.

How about not for hunting but for predators coming around your chicken coup!

yes if you have a farm your good to go I have a buddy that has a night vision scope and its only legal if something is going after his animals but at least he can see what hes shooting at

but I agree when your hunting you need to be carefull the only exception I know of is raccoons or a farm

Back to original question: I own a guide gun & tried it! It does do something to the bore: It makes a hell of a mess down there! Accuracy is that of a rock being thrown at a bush chicken from 50 yards. Read online about a guy who made an external choke for the end of the barrel; but who wants an extra 4 or 5 inches hanging off their guide gun? That's why you bought a carbine; it's short! Extraction was hit or miss with mine, so carry a stick to knock out the 2 1/2" hull from the bore, if it doesn't mess with opening of the chamber.

Carry a sling shot. You'll be less frustrated, trust me... I never lie on the internet!
