Mick should be parkerizing them instead of painting them. if he wants a painted finish then park them first. i think for 1600$ this is not unreasonable.

Lot's of gunsmiths use bake on finishes these days, there was even a smith at the Brandon show that had a pink green and blue 50 cal rifle for display purposes. Its not the same as regular pint.

I know of a few guns that are parkerized on the inside. Depending on how tight your tolerances are, a light finish shouldn't be too big of a deal?

By the way, the non-restricted looks bad@ss , i like it :D!

Apart from the inside of the barrel, how many non-stainless firearms are left with bare, unfinished steel?
A baked on or catalysed finish is very durable, and will tend to protect steel. Many military firearms are parked and then coated. Spray paint over mill finish steel isn't going to last. Look at the way the paint is gone from the back of the frame, just from normal handling, as the stock was installed and removed.
Might be an idea to give any guns being sent in for inspection a spray of Boeshield or other preservative.
Given Spencer's excellent working relationship with the RCMP, it is surprising that they didn't give the gun a shot of oil.
Might be an idea to supply a video detailing disassembly and cleaning instructions, although drilling out a couple of screws to field strip for cleaning is a bit awkward.

All sten gus as far as I know ?

What excellent working relationship :D

Good morning:

Your firearm did not have any surface rust on it when it left here. We
will in future ensure the items are well cleaned and oiled. Mr Smith
will address the other issues with you when he returns to the office.

Regrets

Dear Mr Etter

The box was perfectly dry so it must have happened by magic. The blind screw that went through the return spring guide on the bolt to stop access to the bolt handle screw was chewed up as well. It looked as if someone had attempted to remove it with a pocket knife. I can only asssume this happened when you tried to dismantle the gun when you could not work out how to operate the safety switch. The gun was also not not packaged properly, it had dented the metal container at both ends where it had been banging into it.
I would expect a more professional service from Laurel and Hardy.

Mick

guns that are parkerized are "parked" all over due to the process. Inside the receiver and out. Tiriaq is right, Paint over steel is shotty at best. I dont think a good gun coating would chip off as shown in the pictures. if it did there still should be a parkerized finish to help prevent rust.

I think the original idea was to get an authentic as possible open bolt sten gun approved, but I think that if people want even chrome plated stens he would build them. As for the guns I have seen the finsh was tough and looked good.

There is a prototype yet to be submitted that has an automatic sear disconnect that will need an frt number, he expects this to end with it being prohibited and another day in court. I don't think he cares:D

The "paint" used by the Brits was Suncorite, which was sufficiently durable that it is still in use. Some were "chemically stained". Cdn. Stens were blued or parked. What Stens left the final assembly factory as unfinished bare metal? Which ROF?
There are modern baked or catalysed finishes which look remarkably like Suncorite, are durable, and are far less toxic to apply. Parking is really easy to do. Hardware store spray paint just doesn't measure up.
I suppose that Spencer would chrome a gun if he could find a customer who wanted one, and could find a plate shop licenced to work on restricted firearms. Sterling made gold plated guns.

Does blue do anyting to stop rust ? Parkerising ?

I don't know anything about which factories did what, but I do know many original stens were not well finished.

Ooohhhhh...Czech doesn't like being outed as Spencer on here.

He claims (despite all of his inside knowledge) that he's not Spencer. Look out, he might try and sue you!

NS

Spencer is here, he has at least two different member names, but czechitout is not one of them LOL.

Not that I particularly care one way or the other. But if you aren't this Spencer guy then how do you have access to his private emails between him and this Etter fellow from the RCMP?

Now, I have to admit, I like what I've seen of these Stens. But from what I understand, Spencer has been previously banned from this site. And now you're saying he's still on this site with at least two other handles, which in itself is a bannable offense here. That alone tells me he's not someone I'd care to deal with.

If you had an email address you would find out.

I expect it will be recorded on his criminal record. No doubt being banned from CGN is a crime in the same category as kidnap, robbery & extortion.
