I have just tried 7gr of unique under a cast 240gr swc. It has a managable recoil and good accuracy. Lyman manual says around 800fps.
Yup, 6 to 8 grains of Unique for a nice mild .44 Mag load that shoots like a .38 spl in a snub nose. 8 Grains under a 240-250 Gn Keith SWC is the most accurate in all my .44's and you can shoot it all day long.
In a related question, is Unique any less smoky and dirty than WW231? I have been using 231 for my light loads, but it is very smoky and dirty and I would like to find a cleaner alternative.
