I want to attend Sharons 3 Gun match this year, but I only just got my black badge.
Really interested to know what is needed in terms of equipment and knowledge.
IPSC 3 gun is one gun at a time no transitions. Rifle is anything from a metre to 300 metres. Shotgun can be steel, frangable ie. clays either stationary or moving or slugs or buck on paper. We have held matches at which you shoot all 3 in one day & matches in which you shoot a day of each, about 8 or 9 stages in each. Power factor is also included in 3 gun .223 minor .308 or 30-06 major. 12 ga. major 20 ga. minor
What kind of rifles are allowed in a 3 gun match AR style only?![]()
Actually any type of rifle has a home in 3 gun matches
ARs tend to dominate without a doubt.
I have seen SL8s, M14s, M1Garands, M1 Carbines, Enfields, Rem2615s, STORMs,
If it shoots there is a division for it.......now you might not be competative but you will have fun.
But to be fair, IPSC tends to separate gun types, IDPA-rules multi-gun combines them, with transitions between weapons. You could start with your shotgun, draw you pistol if you run out, safe/decock your pistol and holster up so you can ditch the shottie and pick up your rifle...
.
To be fair?
To my knowledge.........and I would be pleased to be corrected there is no such thing as IDPA beyond Handgun.
True there are some upstarts like BBB who put on *DPA style matches using IDPA like rules but it is not really IDPA.
There is a move in the USA for a "multigun" organization and it no doubt would be very fun.
But then again any excuse to run and gun is fun.

I see in the USPSA rules that a multi gun match need only have one stage in which more than one firearm is used to be considered a multi gun match. This said it would be good to know what the match setup is before traveling any distance to attend one.
Bring the M1, lots of fun for the spectators watching the ROs dodge the clods of dirt falling out of the air on the close target setups![]()
