I want to attend Sharons 3 Gun match this year, but I only just got my black badge.

Really interested to know what is needed in terms of equipment and knowledge.

IPSC 3 gun is one gun at a time no transitions. Rifle is anything from a metre to 300 metres. Shotgun can be steel, frangable ie. clays either stationary or moving or slugs or buck on paper. We have held matches at which you shoot all 3 in one day & matches in which you shoot a day of each, about 8 or 9 stages in each. Power factor is also included in 3 gun .223 minor .308 or 30-06 major. 12 ga. major 20 ga. minor

You should sign up for the EESA Megamatch 3 gun tournament.

Handgun April 10th
Rifle May 1
Shotgun may 15

What kind of rifles are allowed in a 3 gun match AR style only?

Actually any type of rifle has a home in 3 gun matches

ARs tend to dominate without a doubt.

I have seen SL8s, M14s, M1Garands, M1 Carbines, Enfields, Rem2615s, STORMs,

If it shoots there is a division for it.......now you might not be competative but you will have fun.

Hey, a fellow at my range competes (and wins!) with a 1873 lever action in .45 LC against AR's, Tavors and Storms...

But to be fair, IPSC tends to separate gun types, IDPA-rules multi-gun combines them, with transitions between weapons. You could start with your shotgun, draw you pistol if you run out, safe/decock your pistol and holster up so you can ditch the shottie and pick up your rifle...

Oodles of fun.

To be fair?

To my knowledge.........and I would be pleased to be corrected there is no such thing as IDPA beyond Handgun.
True there are some upstarts like BBB who put on *DPA style matches using IDPA like rules but it is not really IDPA.

There is a move in the USA for a "multigun" organization and it no doubt would be very fun.

But then again any excuse to run and gun is fun.

Poor choice of words on my part. I'll blame that on my French Canadian roots ;)

And you're right about IDPA being pistol-oriented. Kinda in the name. But BBB, 6GM6, Farmboy and a few others who use the IDPA scoring system and basic rules for multigun.

But you know what? It's fun and safe so it's all find by me.

A "move"...?

'More like a tsunami like wave of 3-gun/multigun competition... :D

Many of the matches adhere to USPSA rules...
http://www.uspsa.org/rules/2009multigunrules9-30-09.pdf

There are many clubs that run 3-gun matches under ther own banner with their own particular philosophy and rule sets, but it's easy to shoot 'em all as long as you have a little experience and can listen to or read a stage briefing They're all a bit different, but all are fun to shoot...
The AMU has run a huge 3-gun and happily is gonna do it again in 2010...

The big matches attract top shooters and are rife with the bigg $$ prize tables...

I see in the USPSA rules that a multi gun match need only have one stage in which more than one firearm is used to be considered a multi gun match. This said it would be good to know what the match setup is before traveling any distance to attend one. We shot one of BBB's shotgun matches last year and it was a blast but if someone said multi gun and I drove any distance to it to find out it was a pistol match with one stage containing multiple firearms I don't think I'd be too thrilled.

The clubs I shoot at "use" USPSA rules probably just because that's where a lot of shooters/MD's come from...
I mean... are there rules re belt fed MG's in USPSA...No?

'Doesn't mean y'can't have one in a stage though does it..?

In my mind the only rules that really need to be universal are those having to do with safety....

Bring the M1, lots of fun for the spectators watching the ROs dodge the clods of dirt falling out of the air on the close target setups:)

Alright, sounds like fun, I am going to sign up for this.

Massive gun... check.

Massive ammo... check.

Massive fun.... guarenteed.

Really any of these would be fun to use though. I look forward to using a good variety. :D
