I would try a circular target with a round sight insert, and try seating the bullets by hand in an unsized case. You can get longer OAL that way. I bet your accuracy will increase

I will sometimes apply a slight amount of taper crimp, to keep the bullet from dropping out. I have 7 (seven) 45-70's, so keeping unsized brass for each rifle can be problematic!
In regard to black targets I feel your pain. With my aging eyesight what I do now is go to the dollar store and get some fluorescent orange poster paper.[I tried the green but it didn't work for me at all ] Cut a circle that just fills your sight . [8 inches or so depending on the range] You can also take black electrical tape and run vertical and horizontal cross hairs through it or out from the sides of it [your wires may black these out but worth a try, if you can see them then your not on] .Use a dollar store glue stick and paste on a white background. I take the glue stick and small patches from the cut out waste and repair targets right on the back board at times.
You can draw 1 inch cross hatch lines on it for MOA referencing through a spotting scope also.

For the range, I breach seat all of my cartridges except for my Snider and my 9.3x72R.
The 38/55, 40/65, 45/70 and 8.15x46R all get a breach seating plug case made up for them. I really prefer this for shooting at the range .

I may have to try this myself. I have procrastinated uniforming a lot of my brass pondering stretching them as once fire formed they are short of what I want. Therefore I am constantly struggling with expanding and belling case mouths[only having sized .459 of the neck] I would venture to say that even taper crimping and neck tension would still be an issue till I can get them all the same length
