45 70

The load i have worked up to is W-W cases, Fed.210primer, 480gr. Chambers WFN GC, 48-54grs. AA2015......hang on to your hat!!

45-70

Somewhere between 48.5 and 50.0 grains of Reloader 7 will likely work real well with a Hornady 350 gr. JFP slug. I get great accuracy as well as fast and flat with a 49.6 Grain load. Flat shooting is a "relative term" when it comes to shootin' a 45-70. Flat shooting 45-70 rounds do not exist but we keep on trying. You want fast and flat get a .257 Weatherby. IMHO.
Carry on!

I am away at work for another week here but I will try and remember to post my loads up when I get back home. I tried a couple of powders with some 350 grain Hornady and 405 grain Remington bullets. I used Varget and H4198 for powders. The Remingtons were a little more accurate if I remember correctly, I got a 5 shot group down to .75" at 75 yards.

I have a Marlin 1895GS in .45-70 and the jacketed bullet load that 'works' best for me is the Speer 400gr Flat-SP, CCI 200 primer and 53grs of IMR 3031, a load from the #13 Speer manual.
A couple of cast loads I 'like' come from the 3rd edition Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook, using a 325gr GC & a 420gr GC bullets.

Absolutely....use the trapdoor loads or lighter from manuals, I have found IMR Trail Boss great for reduced loads in the 45/70.

A light or reduced load I used in my Pedersoli rolling block, when I had it, was a CCI 200 primer, 24grs of IMR 4227, with a filler behind a 405gr FN BB cast bullet. At about 1300 f/sec it was a great 'plinking' load with good accuracy.

no recoil plinker....single loaded!!

147 grain Lee .457 Cast Round Ball....seated flush with rim..alox lube on top...10.0
grains Unique powder...1235..1274...1247. fps...2.0 inch /3shots/100yds...

..........your mileage may vary

12 grs unique 1/2 inch square of kapok 350 bullet barn cast bullet, 1100 fps from my guide gun, good short range accuracy, i sized to .457 i got a little lead after 30 rds , will slug for proper bore size, wade

I like H322 for my Guidegun. Here is 45 grains and 52 grains at 75 yards only boresighted and not zeroed. 52 grains packs a pretty good wallop. This was with a 405 grain plain based bullet with nothing for leading to speak of.

please tell me your best reloading combo for the marlin guide in 45 70
and any relavent experiences with it

thanks

I have lots of experience with the 455/70, but nil loading it in a repeater, so I won't post any loads here, as the are for pointed bullets mostly!

My buddy loads some stuff for the guide gun, and also some round nosed cast that may be suitable .
win94's is no slouch , however!:dancingbanana:

One day i would love to try a Ruger #1 in .45-70 with my hotter loads. I am sure that Ruger would feel tame compared to the short barreled Guideguns.
Mark, let me know when you are up in the Fort next time, and I'll let you have a crack with my long range Ruger aand my Browning!
