45 acp enfields

completed my 2nd 45 acp carbine and finished testing function ,will have to wait for warmer weather to endura it and oil the wood

How do you have 2 already... I am still waiting to buy the rifle and for mr Sean to confirm that I am even on the new order list
 
Finally, I'm done with Dark Alley Dan's 45acp! The Boyd's stock required a LOT of work, but the final look was worth it, in my opinion. Cheers!

That would be pretty damn slick to see that working. Probably wouldn't need to change anything action wise, as the rim diameter is pretty darn close to the same size.

Actually, that was the main reason I decided to go with the 44 mag. I will have to move the ejector forward a bit but other than that and the mag change its pretty straight forward. I,ve built a 45 acp and a 444 Marlin on Enfield actions before ( No4 Mrk1) Fabbing up the 444 magazine was a nightmare, but worked great when it was finished. I copied the design from an old Rifle article I had on hand........ By the way, no un bubba'd Enfields were used in any of these projects.

Yeah, fabbing and fitting the mag-well would be the hardest part, and even then that's mostly just trial and error. I'm not familiar with the Enfield platform, does moving the ejector forward also shorten your bolt-throw, or do you need another stopper elsewhere to achieve that? It's fun adapting guns for a use for which they were never intentionally designed. Breathing new life into a beater/shooter is always good fun in my books.

It depends on what caliber you're rebarrelling to, the 444 is basically a simple rebarrel and with minor fitting works well as a single shot, its the magazine thats a pain in the a$$. The 45acp conversion requires modifying the extractor and installing a new bolt stop to shorten the bolt through( as does the 44 mag) though I've seen others that didn't bother with it and they functioned perfectly. On the 44 and 45 conversions you can use factory mags ( 1911 and desert eagle) I made a flush mounted bracket shaped like an original mag and tacked the 1911 mag into it.That was almost 20 yrs ago and as far as I know its still working fine.
Both guns were traded off long ago(I'm a gun whore) so unfortunately I cant post pictures of them. It all comes down to how much of the work you can do yourself. Having a gun built by a gunsmith would probably cost far more than its worth, but if you're reasonably handy, you can do most of the work yourself.
I was waiting to see if anymore 45 kits would be available but it doesn't look like there will be, so I'm going to build my own. I'm also going to use the barrel nut to set the headspace on my next one, that will make fitting the barrel much simpler. I will take pictures as I go and post them when I'm done.

When I finished assembling(bought a almost completed on on EE) my first carbine I experienced lazy ejection and went about experimenting to resolve it .I killed a small pile of extractors till(The ones wired together are scrap) I found that by moving the extractor closer to the bolt face and to the left it actually ejected quite well with out the ejector in place and 100% with it .I was thinking I should have a third one and decided 2 is ample .Please note that these kits work good as sold and I just had a lot of time on my hands and bordom will take over .
Also didn't like the plunger so ,modified that to .It now has a solid extractor that works similar to the original 303 design but with a grove in the bolt for it to follow .Here is some pic of my results Cheers

I finished my last 45le during this warm spell .As you can see they are wearing 2-7x33 scopes on the s&k no drill mounts and each one also has a set of peep sights .They are both on #5 actions and one is a 12.5 barrel and the other is 14" .Both weigh just over 9.5 pounds as pictured .Now I am done with ikeaing them, will now play with them as they are similar but different .Zero recoil and cheap ammo

quite a bit of time goes into one not to mention the cost of parts and the price for a completed one might scare you .As I didn't go with new wood like Dans (by the way that does look fantastic ,Lou&Dan!) .So I personally can't even figure what they would sell for let alone the one mudpuppy made which is an exact clone of the delisle Cheers
