The idiot who decided it would be a good idea to use small primers in 45 needs a kick in the gonads.Sucks when you have about fifty small mixed into about 600 large.I tell you younguns it's hellish to get old,blind
and stupid.:bangHead::bangHead::bangHead:

I'd say you have 550 cases mixed in with your small primer brass..............sticking with the small primer brass I seldom have to change the primer feed on the progressive press......9mm, 38/357, 45 all with the change of a base plate and dies.....takes me 2 minutes for a caliber change........now answer me this........who is the idiot that decided to make 45 brass with a large primer??????? idiots..........

Hey this is my rant you go start your own lol

I found out that there was 2 sizes when I started reloading. I cleaned the brass nice and clean, then proceeded to put in the primmers. Well after a while I got a jam??? Why wasnt the primmer going in, Hmmmm. I looked at the small hole in the brass and figured it was a factory reject and kept on working away. Agian it happend ??? Whats going on here ?? another deformed brass. I wack it across the shop floor and grumble.."lousy maching". Kept on reloading...and yet again the primmer tool jammed ! Well sumthins up! I went through all 700 pieces of brass and found 32 small primmer.I talked with my GUN LOADING Guru the next day and he explained "some are Big and some are Small. Now I know. Like the OP..sometimes things happen AARG.

When I'm loading 45 and I come across some small primer cases, I size and deprime them, then throw them in another bin. Later, when I'm switched back over to small primers, I'll just change the shell plate and prime them all. Figured I'd load those for matches or anywhere I likely won't recover my brass. I'll hoard the normal stuff. Lol

or 38 super............

the only decapping pin I have ever broke was a 9mm stuck inside a 45.........

I actually punched through, split, and spread an empty .22rf casing that was stuck inside a .38 spl case --took me a while to figure out what the hell kind of "double walled case I was dealing with after I pried it out of the decapping die!

I put any SP 45 cases I encounter directly in the trash so as not to contribute to their virulent spread among the proper LP cases. I encourage all of you to do the same. :cool:

I've been doing the same thing. I figure I'll load them when I have a thousand or so.

I just separate small primers from normal 45ACP primers after tumbling. Also doubles as a way to inspect brass quality. My turret press don't like anal ### with small primer pockets - not as bad as progressives though.

Agree totally, makes it a total pain in the arse when reloading. I sort all cases after tumbling and then again as I load but still the odd small slips through. With the different primer cup edge shapes and primer shapes it can be really hard to tell if it is large or small. When you try and put a large primer in a small pocket not good. In my press they tend to roll inside out a bit and then won't fire. I haven't had a primer go of in the press but I assume it is a possibility. I have also had trouble with overcharging with powder while you are fiddling around trying to sort out priming problems. I am going to change my powder to a bulkier one so I can't over charge. All in all one of the dumbest thing of have seen with respect to cartridge design.

What brand of ammo?

Sadly a variety. If it was only one brand it would be easy. I understand it is lead free primers that are small because they have more ooomph than regular. If you use large primers with lead free compound you can get too much case pressure. I have reloaded both small and large primers and conventional small are much tamer than the large. All the loading information I have seen is based around large primers. Just complicates the whole thing even more.
