450/400 nitro

If I didn't have the Krieghoff in 30R coming, I might consider looking at a VC, that is why I have to wait a bit, like next year. I overspent a bit last year. Tradeexx has a VC in stock , too. And Martini has a K-gun in 450-400NE.

Yep, you set the rules right up til the "I DOs". Then we'll see..............................

I realize this is a blast from the past but I've been married for a month and a half and still set the rules lmao. For now anyway!
I ended up getting a 458 wm and a 17 mach2 along with an English mastiff puppy and a bear / wolf / upland bird hunt
Not quite the 450/400 but I think I did Ok

A 400gr from a Ruger Number One in .45-70 will beat the 450/400, 400gr factory load by quite a bit if you load it right. The #1 Ruger in any of the big-bore calibers can be safely loaded to 60,000 + psi. That's true for the 9.3 X 74R; 9.3 X 62; 450/400 or .45-70 AND the .405 Winchester. In fact, the #1 in .45-70 can safely fire the 500gr Hornady at 2000+ fps. I've done it hundreds of times and had that load tested by a powder co. in the USA. It's safe, if you know what you're doing.

If you load them apples to apples is there much difference? Max loads on the #1 can be made quite warm as you note. What does a 450-400 at 60K PSI look like?
