450 Marlin

it walks all over the 45-70 no comparison at all not even the same thing the 45-70 is a kids gun sure the 450 marlin isn't like a 600 nitro but its an insult to even be considered the same thing and most people have to reload for it cause its just to expensive not to

Walks all over the 45-70 huh? :jerkit:

Fact is they can be loaded to the same velocities, the difference is I can get brass for the 45-70.
My load data for 350 gr bullets are max load:
45-70 - can be loaded to 2100 - 2200 FPS
450 Marlin can be loaded to 2100 - 2200 FPS
Same specs, much cheaped ammo, hence why I decided on a 45-70 XLR.

Oh boy....... I would make a smart-ass comment but I don't want another warning.

:runaway:

Same case capacity, same performance. Factory ammo in the .450 Marlin is loaded much hotter, but a handloader should have no trouble matching it with the older Gov't round.

.45-70 = handloaders
.450 Marlin = non-handloaders

That being said can the 450 take more pressure and a hotter round then the 45-70 due to its stronger case? what are the improvements of the 450 over the 45-70 Anyone handload the two?

From what I've read, you can get overpressure in an 1895XLR before the case shows any signs, so I don't think the stronger case would help you much in a .450.

Maybe in a Ruger #1 you could exploit the stronger case?

Translation:

I am a troll that came here to brag about how what I like is better than anything that anyone else likes regardless of facts.

Really the 450 Marlin is basically a 458 American (458 X 2") with a thicker belt so it won't chamber in any other belted magnum chambers.

The .450 Marlin is actually a smaller case then the 45/70 and not quite up to the older round if equal pressures are used. The 45/70 case, has been pressure tested(under lab cond.) to over 70,000psi., without failure.

do any of u guys even own one my little brother can shoot the 45-70 out of a prone position for hours but a half dozen of the 450 and he can hardly raise his arm the next day he only weighs 115 pounds so truly if u loaded the 45-70 to as high of a operating pressures that the 450 is loaded to the old guns like the spring field would physically crater sure u can do it but its not designed to thats y they created the 450. the first time i shot it we had hand loaded a 405 grain bullet at over 2000 fps which is not recommended by hornady it caused blood blisters to form in my shoulder i weigh 220 pounds u guys all think that 338 has recoil this would amaze u

Yeh ok but the Guide gun is offered in both the 450 and the 45-70 And these are modern firearms that can handle the pressures. So if you roll your own 45-70s then you are on par with the 450. IF you shoot only factory then you are better off with the 450 if your power hungry right? Is it all possible that Marlin over looked the fact that People handload? Thinking that there is a bigger market for the non reloaders then people who actually take the time. Still confused why the 450 exists if its so close between the two. Most of the research I do on other websites all sound the same. 45-70 all the way. But no one really explains why.

i will never own a 450. not quite man enough to have blood blisters from the recoil. guess i will stick with my little 444 and 338. least they won't injure me when i shoot.
