So does anyone besides Questar (who has none in stock) carry a 458 upper? Is there anyone in Canada that can get us brass if we do find one?
The more I read about it the more I want one. This would be the perfect round for hunting when they remove the restricted status from the AR platform
With regards to the follower debate, everything I've read so far says the biggest selling point of the 458 system is that it will work reliably with a completely unaltered AR15 .223 mag. So while there may be a dedicated follower it is definitely not required for the 458 to function.
But for the purposes of getting a 458 pistol stamped magazine it may be required to use a dedicated 458 follower to get that approved. In which case I think as acrashb says the .223 round would probably not function well with the 458 follower but as was also stated later, once you own it there is nothing stopping you from changing the follower to a .223 follower as long as it still won't hold more than 10 rounds of 458.
I do however think that if you were at the range and had your 458 pistol mag stuffed with however many .223 rounds would fit and an RCMP officer was at the range while you popped off 15-20 rounds out of your .223 you would probably get some unwanted attention and risk having things taken away and then having to fight in court to get them back.
Let all just find a way to fight to get the stupid mag limits removed so we don't have to worry about this loophole crap. There is no logical reason to limit the mag capacity for a legally owned and used rifle. If it did anything to stop a dirtbag criminal from using a 30 round mag then I would be in support of it but it only affects those that choose to follow the rules and unfortunately that's not the criminals.
Politicians and Anti's have never understood this concept and probably never will. They must think that once the rivet is installed it can never be removed and that no one would dare breaking the law by removing it, not even criminals.
It's just stupid.
