45ACP Revolver - Opinion

I have own 3 625, both were accurate and trigger were awesome. Compete with the 5 inchers for 4 years and I had a lot of fun. Will get another one as soon as $$$ problem will be fix.

I had a 5" 625. It had one of the sweetest out of box triggers I've ever felt and, man, it was accurate!! I often wonder why I ever sold it....

My 3" 625 is very accurate.

The feel of 45acp just like 38+P, it is easy to shoot but cost way more than 38+P. But since a 357 mag revolver can give you more choice of ammo, I think 45 should not be a better choice out of many other option.

Until a hand injury and arthritis made double action shooting difficult, I owned and used a S&W 625 5 inch barrel, Hogue grips. The gun was extremely accurate and pleasant to shoot, fast to reload too. Excellent choice for an all round use gun.

Those USFA guns look fantastic and would be my first pick in .45 Auto although, Id go with the .45 Colt myself, because any load you can put through a .45 Auto you can duplicate with the .45 Colt's and then some.

X2,..... 45 ACP in a 1911 is perfect, but in a big bore revolver, go 45 colt or 44 mag. Just my .02

I've owned dozens of revolvers, including a bunch of S&W .45 ACP versions.

My very first hand gun was a .45 ACP converted Webley top break. I traded the CLUNKY OLD FASHIONED Webley off for a .44 SPL Charter Arms Bulldog, which was a much better pistol.

I also had a couple of the old long action M 17 S&W military models in .45 ACP, and a few of the beautifully fitted and finished, VERY ACCURATE old civilian Target Model blue steel 25s. I ended up trying a couple of the SS 25s, which were no where near as nice as the old blue guns.

I have shot IPSC with a revolver, and the only advantage I found in using .45 ACP in a revolver, is the very quick reload with full moon clips. Other than that, .44 SPL, or .44 Mag are better choices FOR ACCURACY, AND VERSATILITY.

PS: if you are shooting double action a lot, a Ruger revolver is a much stronger design than the S&W, which has a VERY heavy cylinder and a VERY small hand. LOTS of DA in a large frame S&W, means lots of visits to the S&W repair depot to get the cylinder re-timed.

This weakness under extended DA, was the main reason I switched from S&W revolvers to Ruger revolvers.

It is possible to have a .45 Colt (or .454 Casull) cylinder on a DA revolver machined to take .45 ACP in moon clips as well as the .45 Colt rimmed cartridges either loose or in their own clips.

I wish S&W would offer a .45 Colt Mountain Gun so configured with a 4.2" barrel. Wouldn't that be a nifty and versatile sixgun?

I'm considering a 45ACP revolver to strealine my ammo (currently shooting a Sig p220). I recently sold a .357mag revolver to clear up three different ammo types being stored.
Love the snubbies but not 12.6 but a 4.2"bbl would be nice. Did see a Ruger Redhawk 4.2" 44mag that was interesting...however I'll be adding another round type:confused:

My little girl. :D

And if you'll accept .45Colt as an alternative, it adds a stainless Ruger Redhawk with 4.2" barrel to your options.

M25-2 smith wesson 45acp

Recently bought my first M25-2 smith and wesson, 6 in barrel, 3Ts, 2lb trigger. Went to the range ,used same ammo that we put through our Kimber gold combat model ,230 LRN with 5.1 grs of w231 .Targets at 25yds . Shot tighter groups than our kimber. Out shot our Model 17 k22, and our Model 41 smith and wesson . We heard a lot of talk about over size chambers and how you test with a .452 dia bullet pushed threw the cylinders. Well the 452 lead bullets slipped easily through all six chambers. That got me real worried ,did not effect the accuracy at all. My 45acp likes 230gr .452 cast bullets. Best handgun we have.,in my opinion..

Now this is an interesting turn of events. Saw a pic of the revolver on the net and really like it!
Anyone know if Ruger pkgs a 45ACP cylinder that can swap out the 45LC. I'm fairly certain that 45ACP cannot be used in the dedicated 45LC cylinder.....correct?

It's funny you ask, cause there actually is such a thing

I love my 625, its a great pistol. My only complaint is that the Pachmeyer Grips are a little large for me. Having smaller hands a set of Pachmeyer "Professional" grips would suit me just right, but just try finding a set for an "N" frame.

Thanks, but I was actually thinking about the Redhawk 4.2"bbl 45LC. Unfortunately, the catalogue doesn't mention the availability of a 45ACP conversion cylinder for this revolver:(
Did some more researching and it appears a smith can mod a 45LC cylinder to accept 45ACP with moon clips!? This is getting very interesting.....:)

I have shoot and fondled my friend's 625 5"bbl and love the way it shoots, moon clips, fit/finish, etc. Don't want to get the same HG cause variety is good.

I've looked at what's available out there in 45ACP revolvers. While there are quite a few options, there isn't one single revolver that does it for me.
The one that does it for me(looks wise) is the Ruger Redhawk 45LC 4.2"bbl. I even called a smith and asked if the cylinder could be modified to accept moon clips and 45ACP. I was hoping that I would be able to shoot both 45LC and 45ACP. Unfortunately, once converted for 45ACP it will only shoot 45ACP.
Looks like I'll be adding another calibre or two to my cabinet 'cause I'm order a Ruger Redhawk 44mag 4.2":D
Thanks for all the help!

In my books the real reason to use 45ACP in a double action revolver is because you can use moon clips. Loading and dumping 6 at a time without the need for pesky speed loaders is a major change in the use of revolvers for our speed shooting events.

Otherwise I'll just stick to my .38/357Magnum guns or other classic revolver rounds such as .45Colt or .44Magnum. And as for .45ACP in a single action revolver? I just don't see the reason for it. If I have to load one at a time I'll stick to the longer and easier to handle cases of .45LC rounds.

PS; In my dreams I live in a world where companies make 9mm revolvers set up to work with moon clips and that they are for sale here in Canada.
