.45ACP revolvers?

I was thinking of using my 625 5 inch for IDPA but was told it was too long? I was thinking for revolver class of getting the 4 inch 610 in 10mm.

canada has a barrel exemption.... any revolver is good for use :)

especially the 5" 625.... it is the most used revolver in canada for ESR

I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on Strangeday's 625 when it came up for sale at around $600.... :( I'd give my left nut for one now (okay, at a REASONABLE price).

I'm shooting stateside so my 5 inch version wouldn't then be allowed.

then get your barrel cut to 4.2" which is what US requires.... and it meets the canadian law to boot. 4.2" = 106.68mm

I am having my ruger super redhawk cut to 4.2 and am goign to use it for shyt and giggles.

I owned 3 625, and they were all fun to shoot, I compete in IPSC with two of them for two years.Fun to shoot, fast reload and all of them were accurate. If you have the chance to get a PC 625 for a good price, get it, you wont regret it.

Good plan. Just curious, do you know anyone who's using the 610. Loaded correctly the 10 recoils less than the 45 and is quicker to load with moon-clips than a 38. I would of thought this would of made the perfect IDPA wheel-gun - short of S&W reintroducing a wheel-gun in 38 Super or even 9mm.

There's an Ontario IPSC Master that uses a 5" 610.

Wes, IDPA measure their barrel to the cylinder face.

Jess, you may be able to use your 5" at club matches but only at the MD's discretion, so ask first.

should not be much of a deal since the gap should only be in the range of .02-.03 at the most

if you get it cut to exactly 106mm it will measure 4.173216 inches so even a .03 gap will make it.

and frankly within the spirit of the sport I doubt any match director would complain as long as your within the the 1/10th of an inch plus or minus.

What is the Canadian price on the taurus, if you don't mind?

E.T.A. how effective is the port system, looks pretty good on youtube

I think it was around $600 or so. It was a while ago so I can't remember. Probably a bit more with the lower Can $ now.

The porting is kewl when the range is a little dark, but other than that, you don't really need it for the 45. I think it was just a marketing thing they added at the factory. It makes it loud, though. Sounds almost like a .357Mag instead of a 45 ACP. Personally, I prefer satin over polished, so eye-candy wise, I don't reget not spending more on a S&W. The vented rib is kinda kewl looking.

A lot of people will say Taurus is junk, but so far no problems at all with both my Taurus wheel guns (the other is a 970-22LR). And yes, I do own a S&W but it was an almost NIB sitting in a vault for 20 years inheritance a buddy traded me. Nice guns but too much $ for new ones considering my Rugers and Taurus' shoot almost as nice for a lot less money.

Only 2 complaints with the Taurus Trackers...

1) the moon clips are a pain so I just don't bother using them. That means I have to have a pencil or screwdriver on the bench to push out the empties. But that's the same for all the 45 wheel guns. That or wait until I can afford to buy some Starline Auto-Rim brass. :D

2) those squishy "Ribber" grips s*ck big time. But some people like them. Two of my buddies actually like the things. I can't wait to try a solid rubber Hogue on them. Or if I can find wood ones, it would be even better. :)

wow,
I didn't expect this much feedback, thanks very much guys.

I guess it might come down to what's available as I don't see anything available at the moment.

I want to be able to do fast reloads so the 625 is probably the way to go?

Wheel guns are nothuing but a whole bunch of "YAHOO!!":D
This one's been tuned by Gunnar, and with the North Mountain clip holder I can run the longer IPSC stages without too much difficulty.

Really good looking and look users friendly, you carry a lot of ammo that way. I was using California Comp Moon clips holders when I competed, and gave me problem , and not so much capacity as yours.

Were do you get this moonclips holders?

Thank

:D

you can get them from
www.redotshooting.com
but I think Double tap can bring them in.
Red dot had them to me in less than a week.
The sell a single pole as well, so if a fella was only running 18 rounds, he could do it with two singles , no sweat.

These things are FAST!!:D
