I've been doing some research on the .460 Rowland conversion kits, looks like a very peppy little round and in a 1911 to boot. The ballistics are very impressive, the kits look fairly simple to install and reliable, with the added benfit of still using standard magazines and being able to shoot .45 acp (im assuming the recoil spring needs to be changed to a lighter one to function correctly with .45 acp.) Has anybody shot one or done the conversion to one of their pistols? (G21 or 1911) Any firsthand experience is appreciated. Thanks much, Skokie.

Yes, I did it using one of those cheap no name Norincos. Not all brands of 1911s are suitable. Norinco is one of the good ones.

It is a drop in conversion.

Lots over power if you have the right powder. Recoil is more than 45ACP, but not as much as 44 Mag.

A perfect use for a cheap Norinco.

2 hands at 20 yards.

you cant get them in Canada anymore.
the manufacturer does not ship up here as of last January.
so you'd have to pay $200+ to get one of the import companies to bring one in for ya.

and yes, they are fun!
and yes, i too went the Norinco route and love it.
and yes, i am grinning an evil grin.

I don't believe that this part is correct.

yes, you can shoot regular 45's.
just the heavier spring might not cycle depending on the load your shooting.
the 45 some times just dosnt have enough jam to push that big spring!

when i was out shooting mine last month i ran out of 460's so i changed out the spring for a lighter one there at the bench and then blazed away 100 45's before putting it away.

so it definitely does run the 45's.

I will likely be heading to the US once or twice this year, would the conversion kit be considered just parts and the kind of thing I could bring back, or would it be considered something more sinister? Thanks much.

The $200 IRunGun's import fee is per shipment, so if a few nutz went in on an import the $200 would be divided by the number of conversions ordered.

Barrels, frames, slides and mags were very sinister the last time I checked...

logic says they are just part.
but since when does logic play any part in what guns we can and cant have?

actually its not canada that you have a problem getting it into, canada border services dosnt care beans about 460rowland kits, its the US that cares about the export of them. so its upon leaving the states on your exit check that you may run into problems.
but, since no one knows why 460rowland stopped exporting we dont know if it was just that they hadnt got permission to export or if the items themselves where the problem.

since the guys at 460rowland are pretty good to talk too a fella should just call and ask i guess.
