460 Rowland Report - UPDATED

Anyone experiment with lilgun in either of the suped up 45's? Had it for 45colt but clays is working much better in that cartridge. Had it for years and don't know what to load it in.

No, and I don't intend to. It is too slow to reach anywhere close to max velocities, in fact I suspect that even a full case will deliver at most standard 45 ACP velocities, and the pressure might be too low to realize consistency.

Cool. Definitely want to get the most out of the cartridge as it's not just for punching paper. Will source some longshot and get a 410 for the lilgun.

I tried HS-7 with 230 FMJ. From 13 to 14.5 the velocity did not change much - about 1200 fps. 14.5 blew a primer leak.

I will load 50 with 13.0 and will try them for accuracy. Looking for a use for the powder.

I will now try some HS-6 with lead bullets.

I contacted Rowland, the designer of the 460 Rowland and they told me that they ship conversion kits and brass to Canada. I've been wanting one for my Glock 21. Just waiting for the dollar to come back up lol. Might be a long wait.

I used up the only pound of HS-7 I ever had a couple of years ago. I might try Blue Dot though - it's a bit slower than HS-7 and if I can fit enough in the case, it might yield higher velocities at slightly lower pressures that the Longshot does.

I loaded 50 rounds of 230 FMJ with 13.5 gr of HS-7 as a potential plinker round. (Lots of power (about 1200 fps), cheap bullet, powder I have no other use for).

20 yards 2 hands

I have a handful of Norinco 1911 rear sights. They come in two heights. This was shot with the tall sight. Will knock it out and try a low one.

I have several of these 'no name" Norcs. This was the worst shooting one. Obviously all it needed was a new barrel and bushing. The pistol runs perfectly, including with full power 45ACP ammo.

My only complaint is I get a little bit of hammer bite with it. Nothing serious.

Nothing wrong with that load! With over 500 loads to a pound, that's a lot of dead targets (and a sore wrist).

that's the worst shooting one? Very impressive.

That was the worst shooting one in 45ACP. I was hoping that a new barrel and bushing would make it a better shooter. It did. The nice thing about the Rowland conversion is that if it shot poorly in this pistol, all I had to do is swap the barrels around and try another pistol.

But this way I found a good use for a 45 that shot poorly.

PS> Tonight I filed the rear sight down about 2mm and deepened the notch. That should move the group into the bull with a 6 o'clock hold, or maybe close to POA.

they stopped shipping back in January so you must have been talking to them last year when they actually DID ship up here.
your SOL now brother.

Just out of curiosity, how many 100 pound barrels of this stuff do you have squirreled away in the powder magazine?:d

My heavy plinker load (230 FMJ & 13.5gr HS7) was shooting a bit high, and my light plinker loads were about 5 inches high.

The rear sight is a tall Norinco fixed sight. I filed it down by about 3mm and tried it again. I was afraid I was too aggressive, but it turned out OK.

The hot loads now shoot to POA, and the softer loads shoot about 4" high. I am pleased.

....played with it using 45-08. .....

Can you advise a source for 45-08 Cases, Canadian supplier of brass ? Anyone recommend a supplier for the right Wolff spring set and I could be running 45 super through a 5.5" dual port compensated barrel.

Seeing as Rowland and Clark are not shipping to Canada anymore it might just be the fun way to go.

You have to make the brass out of 308 cases.

I don't know where to get 45-08 brass now that Armco is out of that business. You can buy 45 Super brass from a dealer who sells Starline brass, and you can get the spring direct from Wolff.
