For the upcoming deer season I was thinking about spending a few evenings in my deer stand with my old M1 Garand. I was wondering if anyone knew where to buy a 5 round clip... Laws here in Nova Scotia require 5 rounds in a semi auto for hunting... Garand included. Ayhoo. I know I can make one but I don't want any malfunctions when that buck comes out.. So i would prefer a factory one, I just need one. Was hoping someone knew of a Canadian source.

Thanks

I think the Garand is exempt by name from the firearms act magazine limits, but I think the provincial hunting regulations don't consider it (or any other firearm) a 'special case'.

For hunting, I think you do need the five round en bloc clip.

Yes hunting is 5 round clip in Nova Scotia I called today and spoke to one of the game wardens so to avoid any hassle I would just rather have the 5 shot clip in the gun if they check me.

Its crazy. I just searched for an hour online for one available to be shipped to me in Canada and came up with ZERO, But i did find all kinds of sites selling the 8's I never thought i would complain about such a thing. I am going to end up having to make one. Hopefully it doesn't cause my rifle to screw up at the moment of truth. Ugh.

Brownells has stopped shipping to Canada?

They don't have any.... At least their search thing is coming up empty.

Edit: I looked again. they have it listed under the 8 round one after you click into it. My god.

Thank you :) I feel like a dummy now

I used to have a garand that shot great and there are 5 shot stripper clips available but they are hard to find. I never tried to modify or "chop" an original but couldn't a guy do that?

Can you load 5 live rounds and 3 empty cases into a Garand enbloc and still have it work properly? (the 3 empties are on the bottom of course)

Yes it will work.... but will the CO accept that as a suitable "plug"? Worst case in you can't find an OEM one maybe JB weld them in place... more permanent????

Don't think that will work because the rounds slide up out of the clip when firing. The clip seems to stay in the same spot until the last round is fired. I think JB welding the spent casings in place would just jam the whole clip.

Use the 8 rounders and load just 5. If I remember you load the empty en block into the rifle and put 5 rounds in.

This ^ load an empty enbloc into the rifle and load 5 cartridges into the enbloc like you would a magazine. The enbloc lips will keep the cartridges in the mag well and to follower will
keep tension upwards on the cartridges. When finished 5 rds, let the bolt feed the round into the chamber......
