I would go for that 408 that Rick at ATRS built in the Tac 50 stock.

I had the same dilemma as you not too long ago and since my primary concern was weight since I would be mostly hunting with it, I went with the TRG in 338. Not that I pack the gun around very often or very far (usually stays in it's case in the truck while I glass big cut blocks) but I like the ability to pack it around for a decent distance without too much trouble if I had to.I understand that a 338 lapua would have no problem with the distances I mentioned ... in the hands of a competent shooter ... I would like to learn, feel confident and then shoot that out to those ranges and past that on certain animals eventually ... I like the idea of trying out something larger than .308 also. I think I'll skip the idea of the .50, consider the .338 but need to read, study and figure out which rifle make I want in .338 lapua.

If I spot something closer or am hunting areas where I know that those long shots are not possible I use a 308 or a 9.3 (depending on the animal i'm hunting) for those 200yd or less shots.
I do however want to get a 50 just for the WOW factor more than anything.
