Your buddy bought it without looking into the cost and availabilty of ammo didn't he. The pistols are extremely expensive and don't have much use other than just to have. "I want one" is reason enough though. You need hands like a monkey to shoot one too.
"...why is it so hard to find?..." Low demand and very expensive when you do find it. Not many ammo makers loading it either.
Goble's, in London, is listing Samson 300 grain JHP ammo at $55.50 per 20. Doesn't mean they have any though. A 7 round Desert Eagle mag runs $89.95.

the problem is the store that sell him that pistol never got the ammo for it, he also did not tell him about the issue of getting ammo. thats the problem with store around Gatineau area , the store will bring stuff in there store but will not do there homework about the product they just see dollar signed.thats like a student the other day that show up for is course with a 40 s & w. this was is first pistol, he couldn't even keep it aligned, the guy was scare of it. i would thing that they would of recommend him a 22 cal first and let him decide to come back later to buy a bigger pistol(who die with the most toy win.lol), instead the guy was so p... about the store. I let him borrow my 22 for his course so the guy could shoot and pass is course. that store just lost another client.
 
Scrounge as much brass as you possibly can, buy a casting setup, beg, borrow or steal* as many wheel weights as you possibly can, and get the reloading gear. It's the ONLY way.

The problem with .50 AE is that only two companies are producing this round. The primary is Samson out of Israel, however they rarely ship any reasonable quantities to Canada. The second is Hornady, but we have yet to see even a single round from them.

The US State Department has placed a ban on the export of all .50-calibre ammunition crossing the border into Canada. This includes handgun ammunition such as the .50 AE. While for some strange reason we are still able to get the .500 S&W round, the .50 Action Express is more of an anomaly.

Here at Epps we routinely advise purchasers of the Desert Eagle that the .50 AE round is extremely difficult to acquire, and extremely expensive! Our last batch ran about $80.00 for 20 rounds :eek: The last time we had any of this cartridge in stock was about 18 months ago! :kickInTheNuts:

For DE buyers, I routinely advise that the .44 Magnum version of the Desert Eagle is dimensionally identical to the .50 AE, and easily interchangeable (barrel & magazine), with the sole difference being the size of the hole at the end, which no one would see unless you point the gun at them! .44 Magnum ammo is readily available, and sells for $32 -- $35.00 for 50 rounds, compared to the above-noted price for the scarcely available .50 AE.

Of course it seems all DE buyers live by the motto "Bigger is better!", and not by the more realistic train of thought that if they are going to purchase a $2,000 + handgun, THEY MIGHT WANT TO SHOOT IT AT SOME POINT! :runaway:
 
Harrier i wish the guy at the store would a told him about the issue of ammo before buying that pistol. Its a sad day when you spend that much money on a pistol and you can't even try it. Even Freedom Ventures who sell desert eagle and normaly export ammo to retail store have no clue when the next shipment will arrive in Canada.

Did he buy it from Epps? If not, sorry, but I cannot speak for the sales knowledge or accommodations of any other store.

Here at Epps, we do try make people aware of the limitations of what they are buying, however in the end, it is always up to the purchaser to educate themselves on what they are purchasing.
 
I had the same problem finding 50ae.White Tail Ridge had some for 51.00 dollars for a box of twenty.This was about a month ago.The reloading supllies are hard to find but not impossible.Good luck.
 
was talking to my friend this morning ,he won't go up more then 60-65 for a box or it will stay in the safe. what a shame for a nice gun to become a safe queen
