Hello everyone hope you are all good for a Friday!! So my question is if you were going to spend 5k on a longe range scope which one would you choose and why would be nice if you have the time! This Optic will be going on my seven stars Cadex which should be arriving June my guess so I have time to do some research but this is the best place to ask if I may say! Thanks

Vortex Razor Gen 3 6-36X56 or Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56.

If you want to save some money you could also get a Razor Gen 2 or Nightforce NX8 as well which are both fantastic options

Now let’s say you have the razor 6-36 would you buy another knowing it’s a great scope or look at something different? I don’t like to change scopes from one to another as I see each rifle has its own job. Thanks

I run Razor Gen 2’s (4.5-27X56) as the Gen 3’s we’re not out when I outfitted my Cadex rifle’s. Personally for the money, I wouldn’t spend the extra on Gen 3’s as you could use it for other upgrades and the Gen 2 should suit all of your needs.

Additionally, I stay with the same scopes and reticle for my Cadex rifle’s, I wouldn’t switch personally.

Just changed my PMll 5X20 S&B for a new one a S&B 5-25x56mm PM II LP P4FL. I tried many others but i am always back

Depends what discipline you will be shooting.

You may also want to look through some alpha glasses to get better idea too. If you know people who shoots long range around, see if you can go to range with them and see through their set up. Not just the glass, but also the reticle and turrets adjustment.

Tangent Theta (used for that money), or a March. Both beautiful glass and turrets. I have a Nightforce ATACR and it does not compare. I'd like to see a ZCO to compare it to the top-tired stuff I know.

How far do you currently shoot? Do you wear glasses? What type of shooting do you you? Do you reload? What vehicle do you drive and what are your priorities?

Guys looking at the NF atacr 7-35 vs razor 6-36 which one?

Performance wise they’re are pretty much identical. The Razor has a better zero system, has 6 mil/20moa more internal adjustment, non rotating ocular. The Atacr has more reticle options and comes in black if colour is a big thing for you.

You being from Toronto I’d also take into consideration that you’re a 35-90 min drive from Vortex’s headquarters in Guelph so the convenience of being able to drive over if you ever had a issue might be some food for thought.

You honestly cannot go wrong with any of the upper-end recommendations that have been mentioned thus far. All you are going to get at this point are repeats of everyone's particular favorite, whatever that may be. The things that really differentiate the performance of the optic are (IMHO) the glass quality and the reticle. Decide on those, and you will have your answer. Your best bet, in lieu of being able to examine each of the optics on your short-list, is a phone consult with Omer at Precision Optics, Tom at Go Big Tactical, or Peter at Hirsch Precision. Any of those gentlemen ought to be able to provide you with a run-down of the scopes in question and should be able to answer any questions that you may have. You are paying for customer service, so you may as well get some up-front by picking the brains of your vendors.

I've had the Vortex Razor HD Gen 2 4.5-27x 56, the Leupold Mk 5 5-25x 50, and the Nightforce ATACR 7-35x 56. All are excellent in their own right, with each having specific design features that may appeal (or not). The Zero Compromise, Tangent Theta and Sxhmidt and Bender are a step up to the top-tier of rifle optics, which may be overkill for your purposes. Yes, it is always nice to have the "best" of anything, and additionial capacity (or magnification) is always welcome. But at the end of the day, you end up paying exorbiant cost for minimal gain when you are talking about the bleeding edge of optical performance. Sometimes the juice just isn't worth the squeeze, and "almost the best" is plenty good enough. I would stick with the flagship scopes from each of the "second-tier" manufacturers - Vortex, Leupold and Nightforce being the names that immediately spring to mind...
