Well to be fair, SXS might not make the most sense cos if it needs a follow up shot then its probably an airplane.

OK, I will give a response: firstly, define 'shorty' ? I assume with respect to a .50BMG that these things are relative and you are not talking about a 16" barrel or anything so let's say it is a 24-26" barrel with brake making it, say, 27-29". Now that isn't tooooooo bad but the blast wouldn't be to my liking.

Now iron sights as a backup or as primary ? As a backup I see nothing amiss - esthetically not pleasing but not inherently wrong. As a primary sighting method - sort of like a PH gun in Africa - I suppose it would work but isn't the calibre overkill for ranges likely to be iron-sightable ?

But if your BMG includes a cloth belt, I suggest aviation sights. Why not....???

Longer range off hand you'll still want a scope

Simple solution to this would be getting a handi rifle in 500 S & W. Course if you want to light 20 K on fire....

Irons? Dude its 2014, get a red dot for your .50

If you really want irons just get an AW or AX 50, AI makes iron sights for them.
