50BMG with iron sites ...

Hey Bid O, good to see you're still out there and with innovative thinking as always...........You could do this on a falling block action and have a very compact T-rex killer, or if you have your sights set on a bolt, go with a bull pup design and keep the weight between the hands and make it more controllable. A 24" 50 BMG on an upsized #1 action would be practical, and the single shot would not be a disadvantage because you would have all the time needed to reload while managing the recoil and getting the sights anywhere near "on target" again. This will also work very nicely as a flame thrower..............Kill and cook in milliseconds............HHHMMMMMMM
 
O, 16" or 18" barrel? Do it in a heart beat, you won't regret it. You can always put a longer barrel on later if you want to.
 
For a slightly cheaper reality check, how about something in .500 A-Square or .500 Jeffrey?

Ironically, it might be cheaper to buy a .50 BMG rifle than a .500 Jeffrey or A-Square! :p

Once the rifle is in my hands i'll post a full size pic of what I asked PGW to make me.(FYI my singleshot full length is for sale in precision sales) Here's my new 50bmg shorty with irons. I plan to shoot beluga whales and narwhal & hopefully a walrus from the boat with the iron sites as most shots would be anywhere from 50 yards to 150 yards or less. Scope it for long distance on muskox or any other creature on the land. :D

fat tony that thing on my floor is taller than me and not really portable. The new one is 24" barrel with a folder stock ... easier to bring out hunting on a boat or in a qamutiq with a regular size case. ;)

So much for the myth that Inuit prefer small bores. Is your plan to hand hold this thing in the boat, or will you attach it to a mount that's attached to the boat?

My brother in law lived in Baker Lake NU for years and moved back a little while ago, he used a .243 for everything up there and the villagers laughed at him for using such a big caliber, so I don't think it's a myth, not to mention most of the native populace would be very hard pressed to afford a project like this. According to my brother in law most use .22 simply due to cost, rifles past down through the family and cheap ammo. That being said I think that weapon is a beast, please post pics of any " game " you take with it.

I think I get that, I was just poking fun at our northern pal who has himself been amused at what us southerners consider appropriate hunting cartridges. The most hardcore big bore enthusiast would be hard pressed to justify a .50 BMG as a short range hunting cartridge, but he's done it with considerable style. Next up, how to get authorization to purchase explosive ammunition for bowheads.
