.50bmg

For a beginner consider the costs of upgrading rifle, optics, etc in the long run if you decide you like a 50. Save and buy once is the best information anyone has ever given me with regards to any hobby.

Exact, I do agree with you.

Always remember one thing, do not go cheap on a .50BMG (or any rifle) because 240gr of powder is in the cartridge. And this is a huge bang.

Have a nice evening.

The other day I received my LRA bipod finally. When I first got my serbu I was not happy with the bipod that came with it so I went looking for something else. I found the LRA one but unfortunately no one would ship to Canada. Then a while later I saw Kevin post up his and was happy to find out PGW started to carry them.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it and the quality is second to none, the one thing I could see room for improvement is the mounting. Unfortunately the only bad thing is I can't fit it in my case now, so I have to take it off and carry it separate. Would like to see some sled feet for it, not sure if they are available or not yet.

Not the greatest pic but what she looks like mounted.

Mounting pic, thought the clamping area was a little small.

Wow

A superb rifle.

What is your opinion of the Serbu ?

Did you look at the GG&G bi-pod ? I bought that one.

I will look at the LRA line to see what they have.

I was at a show and there was a Harris 50 cal. On a table. It was a company table, he really talked up his stuff. A 1/2" MOA at a thousand yd. saying that most others are about 3 MOA. Not very good comments on line, but a nice looking modified 98 style action.

Thanks, I like the rifle so far but I haven't been able to shoot it much to give a thorough report on it. What I can say is the action is very smooth and she built very tough, lot of fun too shoot. The recoil is lot more then my Steyr I had before but still managible, though the Steyr felt like a 308. Once spring comes around I plan to do a lot of shooting and I'll give more of a report then.

I never looked at the gg&g line before, I take it you got the heavy one.

Yes

Rob at Wolverines supplies made the choice for me. I did not like the design of the AI bi-pod.

If I understand the Steyr is heavier than the Serbu or do you think it is the muzzle break who needs improvements ?

Steyr hs 50 28 lbs Barrel Length 33" with high effeciency muzzle brake ,

A litle more weight for the M1 version.

Serbu 23 lbs, Barrel Length 26'" with "Shark Brake" muzzle brake.

Exact

5 pounds lighter and a standard muzzle brake. Hence a little more kick.

Always room for an upgrade. But a very good rifle the Serbu.

An affordable semi-auto 50 cal rifle.

No pain no gain...

It's been awhile since I weighed it but its more like 26lbs, both guns are pretty close in weight. The newest model of steyr m1 I saw recently had a different brake design then my older steyr, not sure how much different the recoil would be but my steyr had a nasty blast wave that would hit you.

So we do not have a clear answer.

Weight is important and a super muzzle brake is paramount.

or we will have a lot of us with shoulder pain...

What I like to see is some load development from people. With my limited time I only got up to 230g of 50bmg powder with average velocity of 2580 fps for surplus 640-650g projectiles.

I am going to start my shooting next month with different bullets : (40 rounds of each except the FMJ around 500 of them)
Lapua, Hornady, Barnes and FMJ using H50BMG powder.

I am also working on developing a bullet, full copper solid. boat tail but no grooves. Spline shape rounded nose. CNC fabrication. As soon as I have my first specimen I will post picture.

All Steyr HS50 and H50M1 are sold with the same muzzle break. One of the most efficient muzzle break.

It IS a fairly efficient brake for recoil reduction but is abusive as hell to the shooter and those around. Having shot many rifles with these brakes everytime a shot is taken there is a significant blast taken to the face of the shooter. Much like being slammed in the face with a garbage bag full of popcorn. The amount of debris raised from the ground if shooting the rifle prone is impressive and unnecessary.
For this reason we have developed a replacement brake that eliminates the slam to the face and raises about 75% less debris .
