For a beginner consider the costs of upgrading rifle, optics, etc in the long run if you decide you like a 50. Save and buy once is the best information anyone has ever given me with regards to any hobby.
So I missed something huge. What happened to the other thread? Why was it deleted?
I was at a show and there was a Harris 50 cal. On a table. It was a company table, he really talked up his stuff. A 1/2" MOA at a thousand yd. saying that most others are about 3 MOA. Not very good comments on line, but a nice looking modified 98 style action.
Wow
A superb rifle.
What is your opinion of the Serbu ?
Did you look at the GG&G bi-pod ? I bought that one.
I will look at the LRA line to see what they have.
Yes
Rob at Wolverines supplies made the choice for me. I did not like the design of the AI bi-pod.
If I understand the Steyr is heavier than the Serbu or do you think it is the muzzle break who needs improvements ?
Steyr hs 50 28 lbs Barrel Length 33" with high effeciency muzzle brake ,
Serbu 23 lbs, Barrel Length 26'" with "Shark Brake" muzzle brake.
It's been awhile since I weighed it but its more like 26lbs, both guns are pretty close in weight. The newest model of steyr m1 I saw recently had a different brake design then my older steyr, not sure how much different the recoil would be but she had a nasty blast wave that would hit you.

All Steyr HS50 and H50M1 are sold with the same muzzle break. One of the most efficient muzzle break.
It IS a fairly efficient brake for recoil reduction but is abusive as hell to the shooter and those around. Having shot many rifles with these brakes everytime a shot is taken there is a significant blast taken to the face of the shooter. Much like being slammed in the face with a garbage bag full of popcorn. The amount of debris raised from the ground if shooting the rifle prone is impressive and unnecessary.
For this reason we have developed a replacement brake that eliminates the slam to the face and raises about 75% less debris .
