590 / 590A1 can't decide which model

559 is a good price. Funny how it's cheaper than the same model with the regular forend. Maybe because they are old stock. As far as I can see all the new stock 18.5" come with a 2 round extension now.

The integrated light is interesting, but I bought it with the same intention mentioned above by Jakley....strip the furniture and Magpul it up.

590a1 20 inch. The metal trigger guard is worth it for extra durability because of the way it pivots out during takedown, people sometimes break the plastic ones. And let's be honest, the bayonet lug is plain cool. I use mine to gore fruits and veggies.

With the magpul stock on mine its overall length is shorter than my 18.5 police 870.

It's my understanding the regular 590 (non-A1) also has the metal trigger guard ?

Agree with you, have read of many 500 series plastic trigger guards breaking.

No, the regular 590 comes with a plastic trigger guard/group and safety. The 590A1 comes with both in metal. I ended up adding the metal one after to mine at a cost of approx $90.

Really ? I did not know that little detail.

Thank you for the heads up.

M590-A1 all the way! GRS are the best. 18 or 20 is ur call. After that you can add whatever you want to the platform. This is all you need! I have seven right now. 14" and 20" only.

You will want to add a GRS post to your 14" as well. Factory beed is no good, dose not line up! About 8" off try it with slugs and see for yourself. As per porting, van comp. works great!

You want the 20 inch and you want a bayonet. :p

I bought a 500 donor shotgun for a 14" barrel kit build, I miss the metal safety/trigger guard that I have on my other 590A1. Maybe I'll pick up another 590A1 for my kit...

590A1 18.5 with the Insight forend is 559 @ no sale sports right now. That's a better-than-Bud's-gun-shop kind of price.

Is there a market for the Insight light forend? If I buy this shotgun and don't want the light, will someone buy it (and how much is it worth)? Is the forend/light fused to the action bars or is like any other forend that you can take off???

You can remove it from the action slide tube assembly and replace it some thing else .

I believe the forend slides off the slider tube after you remove the forend nut just like any other, but don't quote me on that. I have no idea what they are worth. At $559, I am ok throwing it in the parts bin, as the 14" kit comes with it's own slider assembly anyway.

There is a YouTube video for installation of an eotech light foreend that appears to be the same model as this and when I google Insight and Eotech .... the same webpage shows up, so I assume they are they same company or owned by the same company (at least it appears so). So, i think it should come off.

I think someone had one of these on the EE a year or two ago and I think it was there for a while, but that may be because the asking price was too high.

Any guesses on how much it's worth? 500/590 Forend light, I know the Surefire model is pretty expensive ($350 or so)...

$125-150?

LA Police Gear has a brighter 250 lumen Eotech version listed at $250 (comes up on Google .... I have no idea, if that site is out to lunch). This one has less lumens and has the insight branding, so definitely less than that. To be honest, I'd just be guessing on a price and I have a feeling that people think these are too bulky ..... I think you're probably in the ball park or maybe a little less for a quick sale? But I'm no price expert and I have no idea what the demand is .... I couldn't find any models with lights on Mossberg's website, so likely it's discontinued. The surefire is supposed to be better.

I'm considering one too, but only because it has the light and it would be good for camp in a bear area at night.

I hated the front wedge sight on my blackwater, and that tri rail front was poop. I sold my blackwater and bought an spx with the fibre optic front sight and ported barrel and I love it. I recently purchased the 14" barrel kit, which should be even more fun to play with! The oem front bead is almost impossible for me to see on the barrel though, so I'll either paint or replace it.

As for the barrel length debacle, I actually love my 20" setup because of the shell capacity.

TSE in Calgary sells the fiber optic A-pillar front sight just like the one on the SPX.
Just need a smith to braze it on your 14" barrel. It's not parkerized though,so it might be an excuse to get a Ceracoat job done.

I hear Casey at Tac Ord does good work.;)
