590 / 590A1 can't decide which model

TSE in Calgary sells the fiber optic A-pillar front sight just like the one on the SPX.
Just need a smith to braze it on your 14" barrel. It's not parkerized though,so it might be an excuse to get a Ceracoat job done.

I hear Casey at Tac Ord does good work.;)

Oh cool, didn't know where those front sights were available in Canada.

And I don't need any excuses to get work done on guns !!! Just need more pennies !

Have had several firearms Ceracoated by Casey. Indeed, he does very good work.

Thanks for the tip on the sight.

Any guesses on how much it's worth? 500/590 Forend light, I know the Surefire model is pretty expensive ($350 or so)...

$125-150?

You should be able to move it for $150 easy , I picked one up a year ago off the EE for $150 , but it was a face to face meet , so you might have to haggle on shipping cost a little .

They are a good light , about 110 lumens , which is the more then enough for most jobs , any thing more would eat batteries like crazy , they are bulky , but it is a self-contain unit with a pressure switch and little to get snagged on , unlike adding a light to a rail .
Try to put together something for less to do the same job as well .

Tempting... I already have a donor Moss 500 for my 14" kit but I could get this one on the cheap if I was able to turnover the forend light on the EE (plus I have a spare forend in my parts kit).

Updating an older thread...

Finally decided on and picked up a Mossberg 590a1 recently. The 18.5", fluted, bead sight #51417.
Just wanted to thank everyone for their input along the way.

Handled several different models and found I preferred the balance of the 18.5" over the 20". I dug the look of the fluted barrel and I guess saves a few ounces for an already front heavy design due to the aluminium receiver.
(Must admit I like the Mossberg Ghost Ring Sights offered on a couple other models though).

The excellent design differences (vs the 870) of the dual extractors, tang safety, no shell lifter in the way while loading and the screw in ejector are all well known big plusses on the 590a1.

However, I don't like the bolt release location on the Mossberg vs the 870. Also do not like how the front sling swivel doesn't well, swivel. When the sling rotates a bit it tends to loosen the mag tube cap.

I found the LPA trigger lighter and smoother than the regular 590a1 trigger, however I'm not so sure about the LPA on an HD shotgun. Gotta say I prefer the 870 triggers a bit over the Mossberg's.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase but plan on a few changes.

- Magpul stock and forend in Stealth Grey (not crazy about the Mossberg furniture but no more so that the 870 furniture)
- S&J 2 round extension (which will also solve the mag tube end cap movement issue)
- S&J follower
- Promag safety
- XS tritium big dot (what's with the BLACK bead on the Mossberg's ??)
- Slogan Outdoors sling (already installed)
- might swap trigger for regular 590a1 model (undecided)
- some type of flashlight & mount

Oh, also picked up a 14" barrel kit for the option since they were on sale recently at SFRC.

Thanks again for the insight guys & gals. Always appreciated.

Well glad to hear you found something you like. Sounds like you have big plans and will be keeping this one. 14" kit is nice and once it gose on you may not want to remove it. Look at GRS for the 14 cause with the fluted model you have you can't mount on that barrel. Enjoy

Yeah always wanted to own at least one 590a1 so have no intention of ever getting rid of it. I hear ya on the 14". Those short SG's are very handy.

I guess you're right about the GRS on the fluted barrel, never really thought of that.

Trying not to get seduced into a second one... 20", GRS & M9 bayo !! I mean, how many 12 ga's does a guy need......
