590 add-ons and accessories

Not to be an ass but 90% of shooters do not know how to load/reload a combat shotgun.
Im planing to run a clinic on the issue, if i ever get the time.
Things covered would be.
How to load a shotgun
How to reload a shotgun.
Combat reload.
Slect reloads
Reloading on the move.
Lots of other stuff.
The issue i see with doing a clinic like this is, most peopel will not do what i tell them, as they think thers a faster way to do .
Yes fliping you gun over and loading is, can be faster, but your gun is not in the fight.
Your gun must be in hand ready to fight every moment your in a contact environment.
If anyones intrested in me running a small clinic on how to use ,load your combat shotgun shoot me a pm.
It would be1 hour of class room work, inc how to use your sling, how to switch to your sidearm,2,3 hours on the range

that would be sweet BBB, also think about filming it with a Camcorder and burning a few DVDs to sell to us who would never be able to make it down east for a course.

Sounds like fun, I'm interested. Can you do that before the next competition? That way we can use those skils to get better scores.

No it didn't...I wanted it also.

You do know that the model you bought will put you into OPEN division should you use it for IPSC Shotgun.

Oh and BTW..

I was wearing a left glove for the Napanee Shotgun match. Part was as a homage to Wacko Jacko..........the other part because I have not mastered the reload as shown in the video above. (but I plan on it). I did not buy a heatshield because I plan on altering my loading process over the winter.

But for the moment I hold the gun upside down by with the barrel on my hand.......hence the glove.

It cannot be that bad consideirng I won the match.

Heat Shield........what do you need a heat shield for?
Sling......One Shot Tactical
Bayonet..........trying to track one down myself
Flashlight Forend.........again with the
Pistol Grip Stock........Should have bought a Remy if you wanted to use a pistol grip; you lose all utility of the tang safety by putting a pistol grip stock on a Mossy

Oh yeah, I should add one of these, :D LOL

If you are someone who carries a shotgun in difficult terrain, the heat shield can protect the barrel should you take a bad spill, the shield gets dented, not the barrel. The flashight could be useful on nights in a tent in bear country, although I don't use one that is part of the gun. I consider a pistol grip on a shotty a step backwards. The sling should not be a wimpy one, it should be useful as both a carry strap and as a shooting sling.

I'm in the Hat, that would be awesome........but my 590A1 is Canada Post M.I.A.(delivered to wrong address apparently  ) so I need to get it before I can learn anything :)

On my annual trek north for the hunt, of course we stopped into Epps....had to...for some reason the truck just veered into the parking lot and quit for an hour....

Picked up a heat shield, side saddle, Spec Ops stock for the 590.
oh, and some supplies too.
oh, and a Remington 597 VTR.....
the wife just looked at me and said, "well, ya done yet?..."

He needs the heat shield...because we're dragging him into IPSC 3 gun ;)

It's not the 150 rounds an hour...it's the 32 rounds in 65 seconds...and they do get hot.

I have a heat shield on my 590 A1...and about once or twice a year I'm very happy that it's there...

I have a 590 Mariner and a 590A1, the heavy barrel on the 590A1 doesn't heat up anywhere near as fast as the 590 Mariner, so would I worry about a heatshield for the 590A1? - not really - after about 100-150 rounds over a period of about an hour it was hot, not comfortable to touch and would burn you if you held onto it but the Mariner was painful to even brush your skin on after half that use -

Does anyone find the butt stock on the 590 just a little to long, or do I just have short a$$ arms?? I just got mine in the mail last week, haven't had a chance to fire it yet but man it feels a bit long to me. Any recommendations on a different butt stock to shorten it a bit for my stubby arms?

Yes, its too long for most people. I chopped nearly two inches off both shotguns to accommodate a proper squared up stance for action events. I found that if you take the butt pad off and mount the shotgun without, the LOP is just right. Subsequently I removed about recoil pad worth of length from the stock. If you do this, I strongly suggest you pre drill the screw holes before cutting the stock off. If you don't, you'll have a tough time keeping the holes straight. Also, you must pre drill the screw holes. If you don't, you'll split the channels when you reattach the pad. Ask me how I know:D

TDC

ETA: One last thing. Your butt pad will no longer conform to the shape of the stock. You can trim it if you wish, I don't find it an issue and left it. Looks aren't important to me.

The easiest and probably best thing to do is buy a Hogue 12" LOP stock, as well as being shorter these have a better feel and come with a better recoil pad than the factory Mossberg stocks. Too long a stock for the application makes not only shooting but also pumping and loading more difficult than it needs to be and you'll be amazed by the difference a short stock makes.

Blackhawk...or Knoxx....Mesa Tactical all make shorter, adjustable stocks.

and while I think of it...what the hell is the trick with changing the forearm stock on the 590?...the OE one the nut is visible and simple to do, but the aftermarket ones, I have trouble getting the threads to start on, because the nut is a good inch or so down the new forestock.
my work in progress,...so far
