Simple question, I know the Mossberg 590 shockwave is inherently better than the Canuck Defender, but is it $280 better? If we were talkng about a gun for ducks and game it wouldn't be a question, but we are talking about 14" shorties.

The Canuck takes chokes, which is huge. Get the 590 threaded, and then no question. If a range toy only, then chokes aren't as important.

There are a lot of YouTube videos on Turkish shotguns (Canuck Defender is made in Turkey). TFBTV does several and also does them on other shotgun brands. I recommend watching them and making your own descision. My 2 cents: It is at least $280 better, due to the metals used, the plastics used, the manufacturing processes, the QA processes, interchangeable parts, historic reliability.

Sure, I guess, but for me these are home defence type shotguns and I just need them to go bang. It's hard to go wrong at 10 yards max with buckshot. If I'm being brutally honest, I see these things as a complete waste of money, but I understand that that's just my opinion, nothing more.

"I just need them to go bang" is true for all firearms, hence reliability testing. If it's just for range blasting then any shotgun will probably do, and I can see why it could be considered a waste of money by some. Perhaps many do purchase short barrel shotguns for what you stated but many have them for predator defence, especially when venturing out in very remote areas, as it's one of the most compact firearms you can legally have on you. In that situation you will want something that is proven in the elements.

I have a shockwave and it is a ton of fun and I as others have said it is like Lego and I have added a ghost ring, rail, new forend, new safety, and came with two stocks.

Dunno if it is worth $280 more than the Canuk, but the thing cost half of what my scopes cost on my PRS rifles, so it seemed like not too much money for me to get exactly what I wanted.

ESPECIALLY if it's for home defense, wouldn't you want to spend the extra bit of money for piece of mind that it actually will "go bang", when your life depends on it....? I don't follow your logic.

I knew my comments would bother some members here. Like I said, it's just my opinion.

My 835 will do just fine AND it's great at taking down turkeys. Maybe I should upgrade to Perazzi, since apparently money spent=reliability.

The Mossberg is worth it just for the open loading gate alone and it holds one more round than the Canuck Regulator/Defender. Toss an ATI cheap $80 gen 1 AR stock and grip on it and you've got yourself a top notch SBS. I wait til they're on sale for $500 shipped from Cabela's for Black Friday. Only $50 more than the Canuck.

No worries on the 590 being the better platform for a short defence gun. Fer me own use I'd go with the 590A1 Class III as I much prefer a proper
butt stock for solid control when aiming & shooting.
