590A1 - Why the wait?

Either with the tall center ridge, or the wide button shaped one.
The tall centre ridge looks like it may accidentally get shifted (caught on clothing, etc.) I believe the wide (triangle shape) one is designed for guys who want to run a pistol grip.
I also had an 18.5" 590A1 but sold is a few years ago…(regretted it), a 590A1 20" BlackWater(just sold it) and a 590 14" (all factory) which I really wanted to keep but a G'Nutter tracked me down and offered me top dollar... I couldn't refuse.
Here's an old pic

I have the 590A1 20" VCS and the JICII.
Old pic of the 14" and 18.5"….I would get another 18.5" but with just a bead sight

Any issues with that orange residue (rust) in any of the chambers? I know it has nren seen in many 590s since 2012.
My has it but its just superficial. Solvent and a brush took most away. Im confident a few boxes of shells will finish the job.

Only other issue is a small weld mark on one side of the front sight post. The side of the orange tip slider, not the mount to the barrel.
She aint no beauty queen though, so not a huge deal.

I can't say I've noticed any orange residue. My Mossbergs aren't safe queens so a little wear only adds to the "look". Don't worry about weld marks….like you said they're not meant to be beauty queens. Just take it out and blast away!
Here's some weld marks on one of my sold Mossbergs

Yeah I'm with you on that.
Here's the mark, looks like a raised parkerize blemish.

Ported barrel vs Non-Ported. It appears you've shot both, what's your opinion on the matter?

There is a 14" barreled 590A1 around? I haven't seen any mentioned... where can we get one?

The ports are supposed to help keep the front end "level" for rapid follow shots. Does it work?…not to sure cause the weight of these 20" 590A1's already help.
The report between a ported vs non-ported is different and may be louder but a good set of muffs/plugs will take care of that if its a concern.
IDK if Mossberg made a 14" 590A1. Never seen one either. I had a 590 14" which are now difficult to find in Canada and sellers are asking a premium.

Should have a parkerized barrel, not matte blue. That price is standard for the 18.5 currently seen in stores.

Don't forget to add the cost of a +2 extension to get 7+1 for the 18.5.

So it's not a good deal then... was also thinking about the Marine 590A1 for $499 at Frontier but I see it's out of stock.

I was interested in the SPX but unsure if I want the ported barrel. Lots of differences between models in the 590A1 series, it can be a little confusing.

I dunno, that doesn't look like such a bad deal. Local Canadian tire has an 18.5 model, asking price is 549.00. Don't see them for any less than $500 any more. I'm betting they screwed up the description, and it is likely parkarised, since its an A1 with a metal trigger guard. I would inquire.

I too chose the 20", so I wouldn't have to buy the mag extension.

A fully gased up 18.5"(7+1) vs 20"(8+1) have a very different feel to it.
IMO the 20" always feels nose heavy until a few rounds have been shot. I also find the 20" a little slower to bring up to target (due to the extra length and weight)The 18.5" feels well balanced (all the time) with or without the +2 extension.
Both are great SG's. You can't go wrong with either…..

I was thinking the same thing, but I'm not sure. I've read that Wholesale Sports screws up a lot...

Don't really care about the high shell capacity as I already have the 500 Persuader 20".

The 18.5" feels well balanced (all the time) with or without the +2 extension.

^ This is one of the reasons why I want the 18.5" model, plus I can get the extension if I choose.

I held the SPX w/adjustable stock at a local store and saw a 2" deep scratch on the barrel parkerizing - lost interest. Again, not sure if I want the ported barrel anyway - but the bayo looks like something cool to have (even though it will most likely never be used).

I own a number of tactical shotguns and find the 20" 590A1 is balanced just fine. It may be heavier than other models overall, but that doesn't mean it's too heavy.

My local CT has the 18.5 for $499, and another CGN'r mentioned their local WSS had it for the same price there as well.

It all boils down to what you want. If capacity isn't a big concern and you want a shorter barrel than the 18.5 is great. I wouldn't pay over $500 for it though knowing what I've seen available.
