597 VTR - mini review + pics.

The Velocitors were a little trickier to find the target. I didn't run the numbers and I didn't realize how low I'd have to aim. Of well, once I found it ... it was one 'pop' .... ... 'ting' after another.

I'd assume Stingers would result in something similar.....:yingyang:

What are you using for magazines, capacity-wise? :)

I'll try the Stingers too. I have some somewhere.

It's the stock 10 round mag. The mag is already starting to load a little easier. I'm going to end up trying the Federals again too as the mag loosens up a bit. Maybe that is (was?) the issue with it's ammo fussiness.

BigBad, I'm not surprized that you had issues with the velocitors, I've tried them, stingers as well as rem hornets (i think that's what they were called) and they would not group well to save my life, like 2.5 inches @ 125 ft, with mini mags I was able to get sub .75 inch groups and sup 1 inch groups with the blazers.

Picked mine up today from Epps. (It was the last one they had in stock.)
Played with it for a bit once I got it home but no chance to fire any rounds yet. I'll post some more info soon.

Picked up mine from Epps (the second last one in stock.Oct 01)

Got out to the range on the 05th...29 rounds downrange, the extractor fell out.
Not Impressed. It didnt like Xperts or Cyclones.
heavier than expected....nice balance...short, and I put a 4x30 scope on it, managed good groups at 50 yards right off the bat.

will get it fixed and do a more detailed report soon

The Blazers always "wow" me , but maybe that's b/c I perpetually under-estimate them........

I've only got 10 Blazers left - so I didn't bother trying them in this rifle. I'll wait til I buy more and save the 10 I have for a both action.

I did try some more Winchesters - the 100 plastic box of the 40gn(rn)@1300fps jobies and the 36gn(hp)@1330fps ones. Both of these operated very well and were hitting the steel target nicely at 150yards.

I also tried some Federal 510 (40gn rn) - worked like crap - consistent stove pipes. :(

Saw one at EESA last night.

Overall I was not impressed.

Sure it looked ###y.

But it BLEW UP the extractor on the 29th round.

It was either that or it was a double charge of .22

Plus I found the front edge of the reciever body to be rather sharp with my regular hold.

Ouch.

I think you need to try my two 10/22's Storm...

The one saw close to 10 000 rounds of .22LR (without a cleaning) at the open house!!!!
