6.5 creedmoor etiquette / hunting ammo choice

I don't disagree..... Actually, i completely agree with that statement.....

For example, I own and have owned several 308 family rifles where h4895 is supposed to be "the powder".... It doesn't always work......

The difference being that, back in the day, h4895 was hailed by fellow shooters, and not by a manufacturer claiming it was a 308 based powder.....

There is nothing wrong with the 6.5 creed as a cartridge..... Likely nothing wrong with the Winchester powered they market as 6.5 creed powder either.....

It's just that I don't buy into everything that comes new to the market as making everything else in it's class obsolete..... Especially when a manufacturer makes a powder "for a cartridge"

I HAVE not seen anywhere that the Market place there saying that 6.5 STABAL is the only 6.5 CM powder and all others are NOT ! RJ

Just spoke with Andrew at Higginson Powders and we both think that new stuff is a bit slow for the 6mmBR, have you shot the StaBall in anything that small with comparable 105-108 bullets Tod?
Cat

no I haven't, but guys are having great results with StaBALL in the 6mm GT which is a little bigger than a 6 Dasher

If you want “true results” why are you commenting on a cartridge you have never owned, shot, or loaded for?

Why are you assuming I have never shot one?..... Why would I go out and purchase a 6.5 cm without researching it and hearing true experiences from others when I have rifles that fill that niche already?.... My point is that the fanboyism for this cartridge makes it really hard to pick the flyshyte from the pepper.....

Unbelievable. No one, and I repeat no one is saying it’s going to work for “your” CM. What is being said, is that the market is significant enough for Winchester to spend a great deal of money on a powder that will cater to it.

I don't think you know how marketing works.....

I don't mind the 6.5 CM at all. Would make a good meat getter for me at the woods ranges I shoot. The only bullets I've used in the 6.5 Swede for meat hunting over the years were the 160 gr RN Hornady and Normas. Me loads were kept at 2300 fps give-r-take, and performed well for shoulder shots on deer & black bear. Turns out that the Creed can duplicate me preferred load easy enough, though at higher pressures than the Swede to get the same velocity.

T'were I to get a 6.5 CM, I would go for a Rem 783 HB unit and top 'er off with a 1.5-4.5x compact scope to suit me eyes. I liked the one I had in .308 as it handled well and shot tight.

Nice rig man.....

What'supp with the disco look'in trigger guard.

Fer me at least, the guard gives good clearance when wearin' gloves. Folks with plump pinkies will appreciate the straight back of the guard.
I like the bugger. Even looks decent on the walnut version to me. Good solid performers the 783's be fer the bucks. ;)

Well I tried two different types of ammo today in my 6.5 creedmoor, and to the guys that actually gave me advice, thank you.
My particular rifle shot a pathetic 2 inch three shot group at 100 meters using hornady whitetail 129 grain stuff, causing me immediate concern, and then I tried the hornady precision hunter 143 grain eldx and wow, the first group measured 1/2" and the second group measured 7/8" (first two touching and one off to the right). The ammo search is done. Also thanks to SFRC for saving me a lot of money by ordering more eldx ammo from them.

Good news on the 6.5 CM ammo search, you won't be disappointed in the almost instant knockdown power of the 143 grain ELD-X on deer either.

I know it's a little off topic but I just can't let it go LOL.

OP

I’m glad the 143 eld x performs well in your rifle. I have used the 143 eld x on two deer with my 6.5cm, one at 8 yards, one at 30 yards, hit heavy bone on both, the bullet did it’s job and killed the deer. I don’t have any experience with taking game at 400 yards with that bullet, but I do practice out to 420 yards and it is very accurate at that distance.

Happy hunting
