Looking at having a 6.5 Grendel in the inventory because they look fun, I already have the projectiles and powder around, and reasons (*cough* fkinblakeyboy *cough*)

3 routes I could go...have used all the actions here and like them all, but so hard to choose.

1) Rebarrel a Savage Axis II in 6 ARC

2) Buy a Ruger American Predator and cut down to 20"

3) Buy a Howa Mini with 20" barrel and perhaps make change it to hinged floorplate bottom metal.

Yeah, I know the American Ranch is out there but I do want a bit more speed behind monos to make me feel warmer and fuzzier about them.

Curious as to any info/thoughts etc from any Grendel shooters with the above!

Thanks Jim! That must be a feather light combo, and really get the most out of that little cartridge!

Sounds great...the 22" #2 contour barrels in walnut look really sharp too.

Only problem is so does a Ruger American Ranch :p And maybe replacing with a slightly longer tube some day or cutting down a Predator....

Decisions, decisions...

I have and love my Howa mini. It has a B&C stock with Oregon Gunsmithing bottom metal (floor plate conversion). It shoots in rediculous well! I have Talley’s and a Vortex 3-9x40 on it at the momen…

Cool! What barrel length and profile do you have on that one?

I like the looks of those Howa Mini Carbons (with after market bottom).

They definitely look slick

Its the factory thin barrel and 22”

Awesome, looks like you really get the most out of the cartridge...torn between going that way too, or handiness...pros and cons eh.

Wonder how much I'd lose with a 20", every barrel being its own beastie.

They're great rifles...my main complaint with the Howas is really dumb. My knuckle tends to go right up on the bolt handle lol. big dumb hamhocks.

You know me and my love of walnut and shinny bleu metal, but there is something about that Howa mini with that black carbon stock! I don’t care for the detachable mag so I would go with a hinged floor plate!! It would be a good walking/mountain rig at sub 5 lbs !!

My favourite part of the 527 is that beautiful single stack magazine. For a couple decades, many of us were spending more than the cost of a 527 to figure out how to incorporate a nice, rattle free and reliable detachable magazine to our bolt guns. It’s a thing of absolute beauty I was sorry to see discontinued.

You and me both, I'm always on the lookout for them on the used market.

Buy a Ruger American Ranch. No Barrel to cut and enjoy the benefit of metal 10 round pistol mags. Plus they are light, handy and accurate.
