Oh my God, I have a headache. I read through these posts, and all I remember is blah, blah... blah, blah, blah... blah, blah... blah. Okay, here is my take on it, and I'm sure somebody else is going to want to spank me. Federal is in the business of selling ammunition, so if we take the 6.5 family of calibers and the .308 family of calibers, I'm betting that at least one-third of the shooters out there have one of those calibers. And every one of those is going to try at least one box of the ammunition. And all the reloaders out there are going to reload those cases. And in the case of the .308, a reloader can now reload from .30-30 to .300 Win Mag specs in one case, loaded as hot or as mild as you like. And most of the blah, blah... blah, blah that I heard out there was about burning up barrels. One out of 50 of you guys out there is actually going to burn one out. I know I'm getting old, but I think I have 3 months at least left in me to wait to see what happens with this ammo. Is this ammo going to be around for a while? I, for one, say yes, and the barrel companies are already tooling up to have barrels that work just fine. T.I.M.H.O. ok guys hit me with your best shot..experts first.

Only thing I'd like to add is to your comment is barrel makers already tooling up etc. Most of the people buying this ammo will already have guns in this cartridge. There will be no specifically tooled up barrel for the majority. It will be interesting to see how that plays out for the hoi polloi. Competition shooters, sure, barrels are just another expense. When this one loses its accuracy, find a better one. Few hunters will consider that. And may not ever need to, how many rounds does the average hunter shoot in a year? 10? 20? 5? Their barrels should outlast them. The pressure increases should be transferable across the board, which just moves the performance envelope higher up the speed chart. On a serious note this cartridge hits a perfect spot for me. I've been using a .270 for years and decided to work on my accuracy in hopes of being 600 yard ready hunter however the opposite occurred. I found out ill never be a 600 yard shooter and ill never have the time to be ethical at that range. Since that realization I downsized to a 6.5 cm and worked on being a sub moa shooter with my cartridges ethical range within 400 yards. This cartridge will either increases my range comfortably to 500 yards or improve some of the terminal limitations of my 6.5. For those curious im shooting eldx in a tikka 6.5 with a 18" barrel. The bc of the 6.5 helps out with a shorter barrel but with the peak the velocity will make for an awesome flat shooting cartridge.
Also if im hunting Moose and Elk beyond 200yrd im bringing my 7mm rem mag.

We are not going to be putting these through an AR any time soon here in Canada, so to the short vs. long action, all I have is "BFD".Many cartridges are as good or better than 6.5CM. If I was interested in the Maverick or similar i'd be pretty happy haha. But yeah, being in a draconian land makes that a no go.
As it is, more rifles, more components, more efficiency makes it appeal to me. Gets a lot of bang for the buck, in terms of what it achieves with its case, powder, the rifles it comes in, etc.
The creedmoor was designed for short action across the course bolt actions not necessarily AR platforms.
It just so happens that it has trencended the hunting fraternity.

Stuck on the 6.5 for your needs?, One just needs to get themselves a 6.5x300Wby deal with the 70+gr of powder per load, or the $100+ per box of premium factory ammo and the under 1000rnd barrel life for the ultimate in 6.5 performance and call it a day.
Same could be said about a 270Win, need an upgrade? well there’s 270WSM, Needmore (see what I did there?
) how about 270Wby? No? 6.8 Western or the 7mm’s might be your ticket then.
Feel your 300Win is a little lacking? fear not my fellow powder burners, we can step you up to 300WSM, 300Wby or 300 PRC for your spending pleasure..
Point being.. the 6.5CM is pretty dang efficient as is, same for a lot of other cartridges that have been around for a long time. Just move up pr down according to your needs or wants. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
It just sounds like +Peak is hoping to play into the 6.5CM train and hoping it takes off with the same fervour as the original CM…

If I were to only run a 6.5 something in this province, it certainly be the 6.5-300Wby without a doubt. Definately overkill for Whitetails and Blackies at typical Ont ranges

Try 90+ grains in the 6.5-300
Once you have the brass you can load for $2.50/round so it's not that bad. As far as barrel life, probably not an issue for 99% of people but I am hoping to get better than that out of mine by not mag-dumping at the range. See how it goes
