6.5 Remington Magnum

Thanks again guys.
The barrels came out of a US retailer that used to ship to Canada, but no longer does.👎
Henry Rempel built the rifle.👍

Just for the fun of it, I took the 6.5 Rem Mag out for coyotes... set up in a deer box stand on stilts in the corner of a field, had two come in at 200 and 300 yards about 20 minutes apart. They both dropped and rolled at the shot... uhhhmmmm... those will be the last coyotes I take with the 6.5 RM and 140 NBT's... let's just say, that pictures were not an option... unless you are an M. Night Shyamalan fan!

I also brought along a .22 PPC and .220 Swift, so I have options for the rest of the hunt.

I haven't kept up with this thread lately, nice goat Hoyt and nice buck Buckmastr. I'm eating tag soup this year, on my last trip I blew it on 3 different deer, my aging eyes had trouble identifying 4 points, "or maybe I'm slowing down" lol, although the deer were on the move and would not hold up. Nice rifles BTW, I really like that Kimber Buckmastr.

Hoyt, proud to see you do the 6.5 RM more than justice, beyond awesome. There are certain personalities it makes me very happy to know will see that. :d Seems it was the damn near perfect mountain goat round.

And side note Hoyt earned that billy more than all but a few know, the previous season he endured something guiding that’s almost indescribable. One day when the dust has all settled will be one of the better stories since it turned out well. Haven’t been on here enough great to see that.

Buckmastr, awesome and dedicated bullds!

Thanks Pete. As you know, any day you can be in the outdoors carrying a rifle is a success. Those deer will grow bigger and will give your chance next year. I found that out first hand a number of years ago when I missed a great buck with my bow. The very next year I shot him 200 yrds up the coulee. The pic is in my avatar. Your missed opportunity reminded me of that. Looking back, I'm glad it didn't work out for me the first time.

I measured a bunch of fired 6.5 RM cases recently. 71gr H2O capacity based on my my PTG reamer and this R-P brass.
I was shooting some 120 TTSX out of my 23" barrelled mountain rifle at 3275fps, 58 gr RL22, 2.91"... smoking along pretty good i thought...
My CED chrony died a few months ago and I think it was reading a bit different/conservative compared to this Labradar I'm using now. Hmmm.

Very close to my load, also the PTG reamer, 58.0 RL-22 @ 2.870" left it a smidge short to avoid mag jams in the M77 MKII with 22" barrel... have not chronographed the load as I only had time to work on building an accurate load before I hopped on the plane for the hunt... but the consistency has been particularly good... I am using the 140 AB, but tested a few rounds with the same load but using the 140 NBT and found they have an identical point of impact.

Nice! I need to try the nosler hunting bullets in these.
Is your case capacity similar to 71gr ?
I remember measuring the unfired brass at 68-69 thereabouts. Formed in a bit more case capacity apparently.

I will have to measure the fired cases... I lost a few cases... got the loads up to 60.0 RL-22 and opened up the primer pockets, backed the loads down to 58.0 for the goat hunt and then found a comfort node at 57.5... I believe my last batch were at 57.5... shot them out to 500 yards. Next weather lull, I have a few rifles to work out, I have been at the loading bench since the freezer was filled. I spent a very nice range day last week with 7 or 8 .22 centerfire rifles and burned some powder.

I think the PRC is what the Hornady group developed after the creedmoor fizzled out.

I think they missed the boat on the name, considering the target audience... should have gone with "WPRCD..."

"Whoa... Pretty Rad Cartridge, Dude!"

They had a difficult time labelling it you are right. They needed it to resonate with the target audience...
It was considered the creedmoor magnum. Originally named 6.5 Precision Magnum Shell, was reintroduced later and renamed.
