6.5 Weatherby RPM

Range report on the 6.5 RPM, I had a box of each of the factory ammo, these speeds out of a new 24" Benchmark Barrel, I also had switched the scope to a Zeiss V4 4-16x44 which brought the rifle weight to 7lbs 3.5oz, recoil was firm and straight back no terrible muzzle jump so was manageable, all shots at 100 yards.

140gr Interlocks advertised velocity 2975fps- actual 3030/3022 first two shots to zero, cleaned barrel then 3 more shots at 100 3002/2993/2982 producing 1.1" group.

140gr Accubonds advertised velocity 3075fps- actual from a clean barrel 3041/3013/3014, produced a .9" group

127gr LRX advertised velocity was 3225fps- actual from a clean barrel 3103/3109/3093 produced a .6" group

Well Ive been out shooting the 6.5 RPM a cpl times since with my handloads, I used once fired brass, R26/BR2 primers/156gr Berger Elite Hunters/3.410"

I started at 63.0grs and went to 65.0grs then after some good results next time out I ran a string from 65.0 up to 68.0grs

63.0grs 3/4" group
63.5grs 3/4" group no velocity as my Labradar had Covid19, since has been replaced with a new one !

64.0grs 3045/3029/3031
65.0grs 3061/3072/3071

64.0gr target, shot from a clean barrel

65.0gr target after a scope adjustment, needless to say I'm pretty happy with the results

65.0-3068
65.3-3089
65.6-3108
65.9-3126
66.2-3145 slight tight bolt lift
66.5-3148 slight tight bolt lift and light ejector marks, I stopped there

That is a pretty sharp and useful rig... interested to see how it performs at the range... the only problem is that something like that renders most of the cabinet as redundant, without extreme mental gymnastics.

If I was ever dissatisfied with preformance of my 6.5-06, I'd consider reaming to 6.5 RPM - a useful increase in capacity, no boltface nor mag changes necessary, and brass and dies not custom.
