6.5CM 130s vs 140s for hunting?

"Curious on people's opinions on 130s vs 140s for hunting.".....you don't mention what you want to hunt. Grizzlies, Black Bear, Moose, Elk, Deer, coyotes or squirrels?

With creedmoor either will be fine….velocity range for these weights with this calibre (assuming decent projectiles) won’t be too fast or too slow…..so whatever is most consistent is probably best choice.

I am always interested in peoples comments on meat damage when it comes to certain calibers and bullet weights etc....I typically dispatch my game by aiming at the boiler room where the heart and lungs are, and there is not much meat that I tend to consume in that area. So I'd like to hear where others are directing their shots on the animal and where the meat damage is located exactly.

127gr LRX Staball 6.5 2830fps avg out of my Xbolt 22", pretty well .30, max load Barnes data; 143gr ELDX 100V 2650fps avg, max load Hornady data, about the same moa; and the old go to - 140gr ELDM H4350 41.3grs, under .5 2580fps avg. I find this rifle and cal easy to load for, consistently accurate, fun to shoot.

140’s work well, but speed is nice. I have a load worked up for both 140 and 130’s, both use H4350. For normal hunting distances, I would pick 130’s.

For deer, bear, antelope,a nd sheep, the 130's are great. I prefer the heavier 140s for larger game such as moose and elk. The determining factor for elk will be the retained velocity and energy at the animal for proper penetration and expansion for a reliable, quick kill of this more tenacious animal.

In the end, which shoots better in your rifle? And what animal are you hunting, and the distance of the shot you are expecting?

While I have both the 130 and 140 gr AccuBonds for my 6.5s, I am using the 130s in my CM and the 140s in my Swede, just cause that what I prefer due to case capacities.

I am also very impressed with the accuracy and on-game 130 gr Terminal Ascent ammunition from Federal in the Creedmoor and have taken red stag at 296 yards, fallow buck at 267, and a young caribou bull at 43. My wife took arapawa rams at 120 and 121 yards. All one shot kills with complete pass throughs, and the fallow buck died at 15 yards from where hit (furthest that any of these animals travelled after the shot). You can also buy these as components for reloading.
