I've got a rifle in this cal inbound. Can anyone tell be anyhting about this calibre it doesnèt exist in my copy of Cartidges of the World.
Thanks

I'm sure someone will correct me, but I thought the 257 Roberts was the 7x57 necked down to .257 diameter. So a 6.5x.257 Roberts would be a 7x57 necked to 6.5... ie: 6.5x57. Not as popular as the 6.5x55, but still a well known round.

Am I off here?

Sounds about right to me, but then my hearing isn't the best anymore.:D

Shoulder angles may be slightly different among these, but I think that sounds like a reasonable summary of the situation.

The 6.5x57 is a commercial cartridge in the old country - as is it's smaller brother the 5.6x57. And the analysis above is spot on - 7x57 necked to .257 is the .257 Roberts, while the 7x57 necked down to .264 is the 6.5x57.

It is available in factory form from RWS.

6.5x57 actually was a Mauser cartridge. Just not an American cartridge, so when they went looking for a way to make all those 6.5 Arisakas that came home usable, they rechambered to an American case (257 Bob) in the 6.5 bore. Sort of the same way the 8mm-06 came to be. A solution to a surplus rifle/no ammo issue. - dan

I used to have a Rechambered Arisaka in that same chambering. I used Necked down 7x57 brass (winchester). I already had a 6.5x55 so it became surplus as its so close in case capacity. Very tough rifle..if you're looking for loading info shoot me a pm and Ill dig something up.
