I have a 6.5x47 Lapua reamer that I'm planning on using for a build and was wondering how to interpret some of the numbers on the reamer itself.

120 FB 1° -30
FIN 295 NK (that's obvious)

So this reamer has 0.120" of free bore? How does the 1° - 30 apply? I will be primarily loading to magazine length in an AI mag and would like to know if my reamer has too much free bore for the bullets to touch the lands when seated to magazine depth. Of course I don't know what bullet I'll end up using in the end but will start with the obvious choices 123, 139 Scenars, 130 Berger VLD, 142 SMK and 140 VLD. The barrel has a 1x8 twist.

Any advice? Thanks.

l'll guess that you'll be OK and will try and locate my specs to be specific.

Regards,

Peter

PS, 1 1/2 deg. per side is considered optimum for most match chambers.

Dan - When I ordered that reamer I talked with Dave Kiff about it but the conversation
was fairly short. About all I remember was him saying you might as well start off
shooting in the sweet spot rather than shooting into it. Don't know if that will have any
bearing on using a magazine. Never was sent a reamer print.

Some say the best bullet for the 6.5x47 is the 130 berger. The freebore required for this is
.070 for proper seating depth. The .120 f/b is for 140 gr. bullets. Either one will fit easily in a 2.8" magazine.

Good to hear from you. Well it's taken quite some time but I'm finally making use of that barrel I got from you. Will thread it onto my Stiller TAC 30 short action bedded in a Manners T4 stock. Just need to visit a gunsmith and then I'm all set. I'll let you know how the barrel shoots. I'm getting anxious now!

I know the feeling. My 6br is to the bedding stage but doesn't appear it will be done anytime soon. We're going to start seeing snow next week so it's looking like s spring thing.

Nice to see you on here Mick.

I'm currently shooting the 130gr. Berger VLD from a Kreiger barrel that Mick recently chambered and installed for me.

So far it's shooting amazing.
