6.5x55 question

Now that I've got a couple hundred rounds through the elderly M98 with 28" Gustav barrel, I've concluded that it's about as good as comfy shootin' goes. 46 grains of H4831SC in Norma brass pushing the ELD-X 143s 2710 fps. Grouping anywhere from .2 to .4 MOA, depending on coffee intake.
I had it pushed up over 2900 fps at one time, but I'm not trying to see how fast I can burn out a barrel.
If I was buying hunting ammo, the Nosler Trophy really performs over the Crony, and I have the brass reloaded 12 times over now no problems. Hoping to hunt with it this year.
Enjoy your 6.5x55, I wish I had bought mine 25 years ago :)
(If I could figure out how to post pictures I'd show some targets from my range in the back field)

I think your #1 is now my #1, I could never figure out why you sold it, but not complaining!

Yup... glad you like it... maybe some day it will find its way home... ;)

It was kind of a duplication of my No.1-A 7X57... but I do miss it... sure was a pretty rifle.

I have been loading for, shooting, and hunting the 6.5x55 for almost 3 decades now.
It is a wonderful round. Mild mannered and quite effective. I think the swedes were onto something, lol.
If you like the 160 [often the most accurate bullet in the Swede] Woodleigh makes 2 versions,
both of which will stabilize nicely in a 7.8" or an 8" twist. One is a RN projectile - #80B.
The other is a pointed version, #80A. For any bulllet from 139 grains and up, slow powders are best
in this case. I like Reloder 22, Norma MRP, H4831sc, IMR 4831 and Vihtavuori N165.
I have a Remington "Classic" so chambered, and it is on it's 3rd barrel, so that is an indication
of how much my 6.5x55 gets shot. :) Dave.

Way back I bought 20 boxes of 'CenturyArms '139 gr ammunition for $10 a box...nothing fancy but it works.Canada Tire had some Privi Partizan 139 gr so I bought a couple of boxes...the swede doesn't seem too picky on what it shoots. For a century old plus milsurp, it does an amazing job ,it seems to be one of those 'just right' calibers
