I bought the 260 because it is LESS popular than the 6.5. Load data shows lower pressure/velocity with the explanation of older rifles out there. I was NOT concerned about the 100-150 fps possible increase with either round. I liked the look and feel of the Ruger (my first and only Ruger) and bought it just before they discontinued that model in 260.
I have no concern of brass being discontinued anytime in the next 10-50 years as it is easy to stock up with a few hundred cases or neck up or down one of the many .308 derivitives.
If I had any concern over the possibility of getting 100 fps more from the 6.5 and felt that I NEEDED that little extra I would have gone to a larger caliber or just used my .308 or 300wsm.
Just my personal experience as I'm sure both are very capable of taking most Canadian game.
Nor will 7-08 or .308 brass...![]()
